Young Drivers of Canada - Metrotown Burnaby Driving School: Reviews
Negative experience: Absolutely disgusting. The instructor was impatient and cruel at times. Mistakes were made with bookings. Never able to get through to customer service. 'Louise' was horrible and not at all helpful. This place is a money grab, nothing more. On top of the $2000 for the course, yd would not issue my daughter's certificate for a supposed 'late cancellation' fee that did not exist...and of course in yd style, there is no one to help resolve this, so $2000 later, we have no certificate, no N as my daughter was unsuccessful on her road test; her driver dropped the ball on her last lesson that he could not take her to the test and she had to do the test in an SUV that she has never driven, thus, failed on the parallell parking. My daughter also told me that her instructor basically shouted at her for the last few lessons and made her super nervous behind the wheel. STAY FAR AWAY!!! UPDATE*** happy to report that Tristan was very helpful and waived the $200 and is having my daughters certificate sent. Still would NOT recommend though
Negative experience: My daughter bought a lesson package with a warm-up lesson before road test. Was led to believe the warm-up would be a practice of the test route. Not the case and barely a practice at all. Customer service is non/existent. Instructor told her she needed maybe one more lesson before test and that she would likely pass the test. She did not (for the second time). Instructor then told her dad the opposite in what was clearly a bid to get him to purchase more lessons (at a high cost!). When my daughter took the time to express her displeasure and concerns with her instructor, her reply was “I am cancelling your booked road test as you are not pursuing further lessons with us.” Completely ignored my daughter’s concerns. When my daughter spoke with them by phone on multiple occasions and asked to speak with a manager to rectify problems she was refused more than once. Don’t waste your money here. Paying a high price for nothing!
Upon investigation the student received additional support beyond the standard instruction time, which additional assistance was provided by the instructor during their personal time reflecting Young Drivers commitment to going above and beyond for our students. The decision not to proceed with the simulated road test was made with careful consideration of the student's skill level, where Young Drivers’ priority is not just providing instruction to pass a road test but rather cultivating safe driving habits that last a lifetime. The student would have benefitted more from focusing on skill development before attempting the mock test, which was confirmed when the student ran a stop sign in the actual road test that constituted an automatic failure. This underscores the significance of comprehensive training beyond mere test preparation. That being said, we regret any miscommunication that may have occurred and reassure you that our primary goal remains the creation of safe and responsible drivers. With over 50 years of experience, we take immense pride in offering lifesaving drivers education that instills lifelong driving skills. Should you wish to discuss this matter further, please contact us at [email protected] - we are here to address any further questions or concerns you may have.
Negative experience: No communication, multiple cancelations, bad instructors, basically to sum them up. Go with Atlas driving school, on time, pick up option is great, and their admin gets back within a day.
Hello, Ana. We are very sorry to learn of your experience with our company and as we discussed would like the opportunity to make things right for you. In the meantime we have taken your concerns seriously as feedback for areas that we can do better and please know that per our conversation we will address these issue to have them not occur in the future.
Negative experience: Don't bother. Zero communication, absurdly long wait times that of course you don't find out until you've already paid, absolutely ridiculous 0 stars. :)
Hello Manda. We are sorry to learn of your difficulty in getting lessons scheduled in a timely manner. During our peak months, we often book out further than we normally would, due to the number of students that we have registering. Having said that, we would love the opportunity to be able to meet your timeline, if possible. Please reach out to [email protected], at your convenience, and we will be in touch. Please include “Attention to the Regional Manger, Western Canada” in the subject line. We hope to hear from you soon!
Negative experience: *Update* He FINALLY finished his driving lessons. All I can say is, do not use this company if you want to create good driving habits. Do not use this company if you do not have anyone else to teach you to drive when you aren’t having lessons. It’s been 9months and my husband is still not ready for his N test. I let my husband drive my car 2 months ago thinking he would be good enough since he was almost finished his lessons and he still didn’t properly know how to use a round about and he almost hit someone because his instructor didn’t tell him to use a blinker. If a grown man can’t learn to drive from these people do not trust them to teach your teenagers. I have been driving for 15 years and seeing all the mistakes he made that are rules that should be taught the first day driving, blows my mind. I am not writing this to be a “Karen”. I am genuinely concerned for the safety of others and believe there are other knowledgeable driving instructors out there that will teach proper SAFE driving, and teach how to make the correct judgment calls. My husband started the online course part months ago. He was waiting 2 months to get an instructor. He phoned back finally and someone eventually set up his times which would be starting august 24th. 2 weeks after they set it up they were all cancelled and postponed to September 24th. And just the other day again without notice got postponed AGAIN to DECEMBER the absolute worst time to drive. He has been waiting so long and with him not having his license it is preventing him from getting a raise at work which we really need since we are going to be parents soon. DO NOT waste your money with with course if I could give a 0 I would.
Hello Raquel. We are very sorry to learn of your and your husband’s difficulties in getting lessons scheduled with us and are further troubled by your claim that he was not adequately prepared upon completion of the course. We pride ourselves on providing lifesaving driver’s education. Suffice to say, this is not an acceptable result. We would like the opportunity to make it right. Please reach out to [email protected], at your convenience, and we will be in touch. Please include “Attention to the Regional Manger, Western Canada” in the subject line. Negative experience: If only half stars was an option. Expect to pay $1800 for classes and have your instructor cancel on the first day with less than 24 hrs notice. Teacher was great and thorough. Up until they quit the company less than 48 hrs before my next lesson. I had a class with them the previous day and would’ve appreciated a little heads up beforehand. Company has done very little to make up for the poor organization and service they have provided. Phone lines are a minimum 1.5 hours wait. Email are never answered. Not worth the time and money as they do not care about their students and their schedules.
Hello. We sincerely apologize for your experience and we would like the opportunity to make it right. Please include “Attention to Investigations,” in the subject line. We hope to hear from you soon!
Negative experience: Sent an email inquiry two weeks ago and never heard back. Don't know how anyone would trust a business that can't even answer simple email inquiries.

Negative experience: If you are looking at young drivers thinking that your child is going to learn to drive, going to have confidence for their test i would advice to take your hard earned money and get a private driving school instead. My daughter finished the in-class learning June 2021 but the in car lessons started Oct 22. In class could have been youtube videos that is probably better. In car took months to start so what was learned was not practiced right away. Then the subsequent sessions are too far apart. They expected the parents to practice almost everything, so i was wondering why did i paid this much for? I asked for a refund and got ignored so there wasn’t any choice at all but to finish. They took a lot of students during the pandemic but didn't have enough trainers. $1800+ this would have been 20+ 1 hr sessions on a private trainer that follows our schedule. This was a total waste of money.
Negative experience: I should have listened to the bad reviews I read. Don't waste your money with Young Drivers.
Negative experience: Got my first lesson in January and the next available lesson they offer is in April !!
Negative experience: Too expensive almost all of first generation Canadians. Far to price for everyday people even with a grand income. It's appalling.
Negative experience: SOLUTION POSTED BELOW Due to Covid, all classes were cancelled. They said they would not be issuing refunds although their refund policy explicitly says they do. We purchased in car driving lessons for my wife ($1566). The refund policy explicitly says full refunds will be made if 0 lessons were taken. The lessons were cancelled from Young Driver's end due to Covid 19. In March they sent an email saying due to their accounting team working from home, they will not be issuing refunds. We waited a few months but they still were not issuing a refund. We called to confirm and they said they do not know when they will be opening and would only issue store credit. They said even when the accounting team is back to the office they were not sure they would issue cash refunds. Attached is the email confirmation on the driving lesson we received with full details of the refund policy. Solution: 1) We called our credit card company and disputed the charge. We sent them evidence of their refund policy as well as email confirmations received directly from them. 2) Leave your experience on the BBB.org website 3) File a report with the provincial Consumer Protection ACT and then they’ll walk you through this. 4) Send your Premier an online submission for gouging and non compliant to refunds.
Negative experience: If Terry S. still works there, this one’s for you Terry and it’s been a long time coming. You have no place in teaching young drivers with your demeanour, and shame on your employer for sticking me in a car with you many years ago.
Fantastic experience: Experienced and patient instructors, friendly stuff, smart learning, very helpful to pass road test
Fantastic experience: Honestly the class was great. i met some really cool people, other student drivers and the teacher(s). Have some great memories and it was very easy to learn and do well on the tests as long as you listen. Teacher was personal and funny which made the class entertaining and i learned so much more than i thought i would. I did the class with a friend of mine which made the experience more enjoyable. favourite memory was asking about the “yield button” in the car. it is actually called the hazard lights button...
Fantastic experience: Young Drivers of Canada helped become a very safe and confident driver. Their hands on classroom learning and on the road instruction taught me skills that I would have never learned anywhere else. Both my classroom and on the road instructors were knowledgeable, helpful and very friendly. Young Drivers should be everyone’s first step to becoming a confident and safe driver.
Fantastic experience: Going through young drivers was the best thing I did. The teacher at the class was very good and taught us lots and the lady I did my driving with did very well. I passed my test the first time going through young drivers and recommend this for everyone.
Fantastic experience: Without young drivers, it would be very unlikely that I would have passed my N test on my first try. My instructor taught me more than my parents ever could.
Negative experience: The instructors teach their students not to stop at a red light when going straight, but instead keep crawling forward.
Negative experience: Wrong business hours very disgust me driving that far here
Negative experience: My instructor were fine. But I can only take class on weekends. As such because weekend classes are so hard to book and do to the other mistakes and problems I encountered when trying to get classes it took over a year to get my 10 classes in. I can't recommend them. I very much have always regretted using the. I would have probably got my license about a year quicker had I not used them. Despite spending over $1000 on the everything I know I learned from other schools.
Fantastic experience: My son had 6 lessons (including the pretest lesson) with Sabine Clemens. She was a great instructor and he got his license on his first try. She gave very thorough lessons and he felt very confident on the day of the test. She was very punctual showing up on time for every lesson as scheduled.
Negative experience: Very difficult to book a lessons at convenient for you time. Some teachers don't care how you kid learning. Shortchange my kid 15 min of driving lesson. After I call office they told me they will adjust it next class and they didn't. After I call them again, they said they don't know anything. When I learn driving I hired private driving teacher which was way more cheaper, more convenient and way more beneficial. Don't recommend it to anyone.
Fantastic experience: Although I only took four lessons with Young Drivers, my instructor, Sabine Clemens, provided lessons saturated with important information. She taught at a perfect pace where I was able to learn and comprehend, as well as ask questions. With her fantastic instruction, I was able to get my Novice License on my first try, with no errors. Thank you Young Drivers, and thank you Sabine!
Positive experience: Good driving school, new vehicles, but is unjustifiably expensive when compared to other schools in the area. The lesson was good, but I did not walk away from it feeling like I have learned a lot, more like going through the motions, instead of identifying and targeting my specific weaknesses as a driver. You pay for the name with these guys.
