Jocelyn Driving School: Reviews

Negative experience: I've seen this vehicle driving around multiple times. Each time, I've seen them being taught poor driving skills. Driving on a left lane and everyone is passing on the right. Turning left onto a 2 lane street... into the wrong lane, having the person across making a right, have to come to a complete stop, despite both having a green light. These poor driving skills should not be taught to new drivers and is part of the reason this city has so many horrible drivers. When "instructors" don't even know the rules, what's the point...

Fantastic experience: Awesome staff and teachers

Negative experience: Got stuck behind one of these cars driving 40km/h in an 80 zone. They didn't accelerate or move over. Cars had to move around them because they were driving dangerously slow. It's a shame that you cant give less than 1 star because they don't deserve a 1-star rating

Negative experience: Never used this driving school but I drove next to a white “Jocelyn driving” with only the driver (instructor) in the car on Innes Road this morning. The car swerved multiple times in heavy traffic even when my husband honked him and continued to swerve even after we turned off the road. What kind of driving instructor swerves into lanes at 9:00am and doesn’t subsequently correct his driving? A bad one!

Negative experience: I never left a review, but I did attend this school in fall of 2021. I was taken on to Rideau St. at the start of my first lesson, which was not a great idea. Jocelyn was not very polite during my driving sessions until I started an argument with him over it, at which point he became easier to deal with. The first time I was in the car with him at the wheel was after I failed my G2 (lol) and he was driving in a very unsafe manner. Felt weird after being nitpicked for so long. Needless to say I'll be going to a different school and starting over before attempting the G2 again. Good school if you already know how to drive and need a cheap way to get a course completion on your MTO record, not good for much else.

Negative experience: First driving lesson, he was 1 hour late. Second 15 minuts late. The day of the test, he was 7 minuts late and I called the office to complain becouse I couldn't be late for the test. Of course I was mad and simply said "He is not here yet". She said "Oh, I am going to call he righ the way". He called me back saying that I was rood!

Negative experience: Should have trusted the other reviews before investing any of my time and money into this business.

Fantastic experience: Jocelyn is such an attentive and empathetic instructor. My driving skills wouldn’t be as great if it wasn’t for him :) !! Thanks Jo

Negative experience: SCAM/FRAUDE! I cannot believe the City of Ottawa is not closing this driving school already when so many people complained about their abusive behaviour.

Negative experience: I once saw the driver get pulled over in Vanier. Another time, recently while there was no student in the car, the (I assume instructor) took up both lanes on a 4 way stop at the corner of Chapel and Osgoode so I couldn't pass and they didn't follow the right of way. That was a bad look with your business name on your car. Wouldn't recommend to anyone.

Negative experience: I would give zero stars if i could. Save your time and money, unlikely you will get the experience you need. One hour with another instructor taught me more than 10 hours with jocelyn

Negative experience: My twins have been to this school. They barely showed them how to park, how to drive. I won’t send my son there. Terrible school.

Negative experience: This is the worst driving school ever, Jocelyn, he just makes you anxious and kills your confidence, he yells at you for every little thing OMG I wish I had save my money and time

Negative experience: A really bad experience with this driving school, I had to rely heavily on people around me to practice driving and essentially learn how to drive. Do yourself a huge favour and find a different driving school. Not worth your money. They don't care if you actually know how to drive or not. Instructor that I had was not helpful at all. Just yelled if I did something wrong. When I asked him a question while driving he told me I should know when or when not to do something; was absolutely no help when it came to teaching me how to drive nor in raising my confidence in the car. Avoid. At. All. Cost.

Negative experience: Instructor alone in his car but weaving back and forth on 417. People swerving to avoid him. Changing lanes, no signals.

Negative experience: This is the worst Driving school in Ottawa, don't ever go there, they don't care about your passing. All they want is your money, I went there last year 2022 July 28 for G2 road test lessons/car practice. they wasted my time for good 5months and still didn't teach me anything. If you decide to go there now you just want to waste your money, Run from the instructor Name Eliot this man doesn't care about the job or you. Hope this safe someone from wasting he/her money to these people.

Negative experience: That is the WORST DRIVING SCHOOL IN OTTAWA RUN! Don’t even think you don’t have a choice because you only speak French trust me, driving and rules can be learned from another driving school. They will treat you bad not only teens but adults too! Instructors would yell at you, kick you and sleep while driving and swear at you! Read carefully others review they are similar. Even if you have a sick note from the doctor (when I make sure to ask them before because I have medical condition and they send yes) for finally saying they won’t accept it so you would have to pay them extra 20$. Their policy are false and they ask 700$ and you will not know how to drive at the end. I had so many friends that went to this school and had to go to another school because they still didn’t know how to drive. I almost sued them!! Please do yourself a favour and save your money for a professional and nice driving school. So unprofessional and ghetto.

Negative experience: Just watched one of their drivers swerving between lanes at 12am on 10th line rd. I have to assume he was drunk.

Fantastic experience: EN// Unless you live downtown, you're probably quite far away from the physical installation where the classroom portion of the course takes places. Still, if you're looking for a driving school with a bit more personality than the copy-pasted corporate schools near you, then you're looking at the right place. In the classroom, Jocelyn is a very straightforward teacher with a habit of having the students figure out the answer to his question before actually confirming or denying it; his students humorously receive a "Je vais te taper" (I'm going to hit you) upon wrong answers, a promise that was only once delivered upon (although it was a slight bump and not an actual strike, obviously). Be advised that Jocelyn will have his students do a bit more homework than most other driving schools with a "saydez homelink" assignment that is supposedly corrected in Toronto, but probably ends up in his office, never to be seen again. I had the fortune of having Jocelyn as my instructor for the driving portion of the course as well, though this might not be the case if you live far from the Orléans area (note that there are multiple instructors for the automatic transmission classes, but Jocelyn is the only instructor for the manual transmission classes - the later are also only offered at his classroom location on Rideau). Many memorable interactions have occurred throughout my twelve classes with Jocelyn, such as the time he told me we were going to Africa, the (multiple) time(s) he started eating chips during the course or even his ten minute conversation with a man on the phone - in Créole, obviously. Overall, I had no trouble with the course from start to finish and my driving seriously improved over the lessons. If I had to give an honest rating for the quality of it all, I can't say my aforementioned list (which is quite the abbreviation) would net ECJDS more than a 3/5; but if you're looking to learn from a seasoned driver with heart of gold, you need only to book your classes here.

Negative experience: Successfully completed the full course (theoretical + practical components) in 2015. My practical instructor was Eliot. I just learned that Jocelyn Driving School failed to submit my certification to the ministry of transport. They totally avoid email and electronic trails, and shred all paper documents after 3 years to avoid clerical accountability. Completely dishonest business.

Negative experience: So I paid for this school $651.00 40 hours total 10 in class theory 10 hours driving And 10 hours of online homework … I specifically asked before starting the online homework ….. do I get the questions from the home link website ? Yes ….. do I just write down my answers on a lined sheet of paper ? Yes Showed him that I had already started …. He says I am doing it correct ….. I do all 10 hours on my lined paper Bring it in and he says I’m doing it wrong that it’s not what he told me ….. After tried to exclude me from the class because I called him out and said i can get a refund on my money the next day …. Well did I wait to pay you? No So until I get my refund I’m still a student no? Why am I being treated differently. Why am I being singled out infront of the class. As for his driving instructions… I’ve seen him and the cars he teaches in so many illegal manoeuvres. Almost hitting pedestrians…. Something needs to be done about this. I know I will be speaking with someone but single handed will be difficult

Negative experience: While walking on Besserer street today I was almost hit by the driving instructor of this vehicle. I want to be clear that this was not a student making a mistake while learning to drive. This was the instructor of the vehicle who completely blew through a stop sign and continued driving as I was crossing the street. He did not slow down at all when he saw me and i had to hold my hand out for him to slow down. Had I not done this he would have driven straight into me. He then proceeded to speed up to a red light where he stopped inside the crosswalk. This instructor should NOT be teaching other people to drive. He is a DANGEROUS AND INCOMPETENT DRIVER who has no business running a driving school. He could have seriously hurt or killed me today and it's scary to think who else he has put in danger.

Karen Whitbread 4 years ago

Negative experience: I just watched a car from this school drive erratically in traffic on the highway. They were speeding up when a driver was trying to overtake them and also trying to pass that same from the inside (right) lane. That and some other maneuvers had me wondering how someone with little or no respect for traffic laws and other people’s safety could be a driving instructor. Also, you have to wonder why a driving instructor’s car would have two red bumper stickers reading “the blood of Jesus.” I would think twice about this place just from my observations of the dangerous driving habits I witnessed.

Negative experience: Jocelyn school is wonderful! He’s been in business for many years .. I truly he’s the best at teaching .. My mother , Brothers and many ppls close to me learned with Jocelyn .. but some of the staff has no manners , no customer service skill, some of these driver that no call no show on your appointment .. it’s not very professional “ s’acharne à me dire que mon neveu vie trop loins pour recevoir le temps due sur la route “ Faite attention vérifier que le service couvre réellement votre secteur .. parce que c’est pas évident pour un jeune de 16 ans d’être confronter aux gens non qualifié. But other than that best place to learn Madame G

Fantastic experience: Amazing instructor. The theory part helped me understand the way to drive and actually knowing the rules and not just drive. Passed my G2 in one shot thanks to the driving classes that taught me so well. Best chillest place!!

Negative experience: Oct 9 2016, one of their instructor's almost ran me off the road around 9pm on Innes Road. I saw that it was an instructor when we were stopped at the red light getting off the 417. He didn't signal either and cut me off in his Jocelyn marked, whited SUV with the DRIVSAF2 license plate. Would you trust the instruction to be acceptable, when the instructor can't drive?

Negative experience: I enrolled in this driving school a few years back as an older adult who was terrified to drive. I got the theory and practical package for a price that is much higher that most schools in ottawa. After completing the course i not only lost all my confidence but i still did not know how to drive. Initially upon calling i felt they were very pushy and sounded desperate to book me and get me to come in right away and pay in full! The theory part was ok. Jo (Jocelyn ) seemed like a good teacher who seemed to want to built the confidence of nervous first time drivers. Once the theory part was over I called to book the practical part asking for Jo to be my instructor. The receptionist was rude and told me he wasn't available and that it was mandatory for me to complete the practical asap. I ended up with an instructor that was a Nightmare!! Eliot was rude, cold, impatient and intimidating. He was always getting mad at me for making mistakes. He would sometimes kick my leg to tell me to turn left/right and once put his hand in my face when i made a wrong move. I don't think he meant harm by that, he was just rude. He made me loose all my self confidence behind the wheel. Once, we were driving on a quiet street and an ambulance was coming. I got very nervous and he made things worse by yelling move aside and break! Instead of pressing on the breaks i accelerated so he breaked for me. Afterwards he yelled at me-why did you do that? why did you do that? Finally i couldnt take it anymore and told him: BECAUSE IT WAS THE FIRST TIME I DROVE PAST AN AMBULANCE AND I WAS NERVOUS!!!! Nightmare ! At some point he even made me drive him to his bank and park while he went to the bank and went to put gas in the car. All this on the hour I am paying him!! When I called back to speak to Jo and complain all I got as an answer was for me to pay an additional $420 to retake 10 lessons and then i was was asked how soon i can come in to pay! I was hoping for compensation, an apology or to get a refund.. Terrible. PLEASE do yourself a favor DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME MONEY CONFIDENCE OR ENERGY GOING TO THIS SCHOOL. Years later i met up with a neighbor who had the same terrible experience at this school .. She told me she finally learned to drive by attending another driving school and encouraged me to do so as well. It took me a while to gain back the courage and self confidence that i lost from Jocelyn driving school . Do your research.. Do not go to the worse rated school in Ottawa!

Fantastic experience: I enrolled in this driving school after hearing my friends had to retake their road test multiple times before passing. I needed my license ASAP, and their flexible hours and friendly staff helped me finish quickly and pass on the first try!! I would absolutely recommend Jocelyn's Driving School to everyone.

Negative experience: Couldn't find any way to contact them at their web site, other than a form that doesn't work. Also, the writing makes no sense at all. Try visiting their web site if you want a laugh, but otherwise, stay away from these idiots!

Positive experience: Thanks to each and everyone at Jocelyn's Driving School. I highly recommend, Jocelyn's driving School for a new driver as well as a driver who is experienced in some other country and want to take license in Ontario.

Negative experience: Not happy with how much it hurt my confidence to go here. First day I got put driving out on to rideau st, could have hit another car easily with how little experience I had. I came to driving school to find patient instruction but I've been plagued by fears of making mistakes in front of instructors instead. It's difficult to understand the instructors' english, they gave me a book to learn from which was good for studying, but when I actually got to being on the road I found very little was being explained. All of the in class lessons basically amount to being frightfully lectured, which I bared through because I was very determined. There's never seemed to be a right answer to any question, you couldn't study the book and know what the answer was to anything snapped at you. For an entire year, going through each hour of class and driving has accompanied awful dread; not fear of being behind the wheel but the fear of being judged by the adult beside me. To be fair I could have tried harder to communicate but I just can't explain how I need the process explained to me. Just because I had to pay money for this does not mean I have to constantly push to have the lesson taught properly to me. I shouldn't be struggling like this just to be on the same page as someone who's suppose to be a teacher. And I really wish I had done my research properly on what driving school to go to. I would salute anyone who actually got through this school as having amazing determination that will take them far in life, because nothing less would take this to be a valid investment of time and money. Quite probably a good school to go to if you speak french where the instruction is better, but if you only speak english it's not a good idea because communication isn't good enough to learn from at an adequate pace. Particularly in comparison to how fast they have you on the road in front of traffic. If you are a person who gets easily paralyzed by new learning environments this can be particularly dangerous, and I fear for beginner drivers like myself who suffer from this more than I do.

Negative experience: Don't go here! I was outside and there was a white ford or Toyota suv car with the logo Jocelyn driving school logo on the sign driving like a idiot (Christmas day) Speeding through my neighborhood right by my house, revving the engine up, blew through a stop sign and squealing the tires. This is not someone I would trust driving around with my kids if they drive like this them self. It is a danger to the student and those around them, stay away from this driving school who hires nut cases......
