Our comment from DrivingSchools.Directory about Humber Transportation Training Centre:
A Premier Destination for Professional Trucking Education
Humber Transportation Training Centre stands out as a highly respected institution for aspiring commercial drivers in Canada. Recognized for its rigorous curriculum and high industry standards, the school focuses on producing safe, skilled professionals rather than simply helping students pass a test. While the program is an investment, alumni frequently describe it as a valuable foundation for a successful career in trucking, noting that the comprehensive training pays off in the long run.
Exceptional Instructors and Mentorship
The cornerstone of the Humber experience is its faculty. Reviews consistently highlight instructors who are not only knowledgeable but also deeply patient and supportive. Many students mention specific teachers by name, praising their ability to build confidence and their wealth of real-world experience. The teaching staff is described as professional, encouraging, and dedicated to student success, often going above and beyond to ensure students master complex maneuvers.
- Highly Rated Instructors: Students frequently commend instructors like Derrick Johnson, Laurie Anderson, Bhupinder Singh, and Slawek for their patience, expertise, and engaging teaching styles.
- Mentorship Approach: Instructors are often viewed as mentors who share industry insights, helping students transition from novice to professional driver.
- Personalized Attention: Many reviews note that instructors take the time to understand individual learning needs, correcting bad habits and boosting confidence.
Comprehensive Curriculum and Advanced Training Tools
The program offers extensive training for various licenses, including the DZ and the comprehensive AZ (Class A) license. The curriculum is designed to cover every aspect of truck driving, from pre-trip inspections and air brake systems to advanced backing and highway driving. A standout feature is the use of state-of-the-art simulation technology. Simulator sessions, often led by instructors like Laurie, are praised for helping students master difficult backing maneuvers in a safe, controlled environment before getting behind the wheel.
- Simulator Training: Virtual reality sessions are highlighted as a crucial tool for learning backing and handling without the stress of a real vehicle.
- Hands-On Experience: Students train on modern tractor-trailers, including sleeper cabs and 53-foot trailers, ensuring they are ready for industry-standard equipment.
- Thorough Theory: Classroom instruction covers federal and provincial laws, vehicle mechanics, and safety regulations in detail.
Strong Industry Recognition and Career Outcomes
Humber’s reputation in the transportation sector is formidable. Graduates often report that employers recognize the quality of their training, giving them a competitive edge in the job market. Many alumni mention securing job offers shortly after completing the program, validating the school’s commitment to preparing drivers for real-world scenarios. The focus on safety and professional conduct resonates strongly with hiring managers.
Considerations for Prospective Students
While the consensus is overwhelmingly positive, it is worth noting that the program is intensive and comes at a premium price point. The training is demanding, requiring significant dedication and hard work from students. Some reviews mention that the high standards mean not everyone passes on the first attempt, but this is often attributed to the rigorous nature of the course rather than poor instruction. Additionally, a few students noted that the trucks used for manual transmission training can be challenging, and scheduling can sometimes be tight, but the overall educational value is widely regarded as superior to cheaper alternatives.

Fantastic experience: I graduated with honors in 2014 and obtained my AZ license. These guys enabled me to make a lot of money. They were pretty expensive, but I felt like I had a decent foundation to build a skillset on when I was done. It was an investment and the best thing I ever did for myself. Saddened to hear they're no longer offering the program...
Fantastic experience: Former G to AZ student 2016 This school charges a lot, but actually provides valuable training. Should be a 4 star or higher. I heard this school is closing, and the website courses page only has air brake now, no driving. This is an actual truck school, NOT an illegal licence mill that takes bribes! Even at a sub par "school" for half or third price tuition. Training is lower. Back in my time, no bribing to pass here, you actually had to pass tests. There is probably more class and driving time here. Learn with a sleeper cab with a 53' trailer, because that is industry standard. Learning on a day cab, then going line haul with a sleeper cab and 53' trailer is bad. Learning with a standard trailer and a longer sleeper cab tractor is better, in case a student goes long distance after graduation. MTO needs to do undercover school inspection by sending an inspector to driving schools as a student. Humber will pass, licence mills will fail. Regardless of the cost, the Dean should keep this open. At least the industry could still have some future professionals. The ones who were wise to go here for priceless training, over a cheaper licence mill for worthless training. Or the mills that take bribes.
Fantastic experience: My instructor Sandeeb provided plenty of hands-on training, including time behind the wheel of a tractor-trailer, which helped me gain the confidence I needed to succeed. Wish i could give more than 5 stars. i have passed my AZ license on first attempt. I worked very hard to achieve my goal and a big thanks goes to Sandeeb
Fantastic experience: Best school for AZ license. Passed in first attempt. Mike and Bhullar sir helped me a lot.
Negative experience: Avoid this school like the plague. They overprice, and are overbooked, and because of that, they will literally delay your dates many weeks and even run their classes into late nights. A dz takes more than 6k and 3 weeks. Any other credited school will charge much less and is much faster. Their az is overpriced too. GO TO THE ONTARIO MINISTRY SITE and look up accredited schools, and choose any of those. This place has screwed over many people. Please do not book here. They are highly unorganized and will not care to delay you and there will be 0 chance at a refund, and they don't teach that well either. Especially their dz instructor. Save your money and go anywhere but this place.
