Johnston's Vancouver GLP Driving School

Experienced Instructors with a High Pass Rate

Johnston’s Driving School has been a staple in Vancouver and Richmond since 1969, building a reputation for turning nervous new drivers into confident motorists. The school boasts a team of ICBC-licensed instructors who are highly praised for their patience, expertise, and ability to tailor lessons to individual learning styles. Students frequently mention instructors like Naj, Werner, Doug, and Gord, highlighting their calm demeanor and professional approach. This personalized mentorship is a key factor in the school's success, with many students passing their road tests on the very first attempt.

Comprehensive GLP Program and Defensive Driving

The school offers the ICBC-approved Graduated License Program (GLP), which includes 18 hours of classroom instruction and behind-the-wheel training. Based on the Smith System’s "5 Keys to Space Cushion Driving," the curriculum is designed to build a foundation for lifetime safe driving. The classroom sessions, often led by engaging instructors like Doug, cover essential theory and practical tips, such as vehicle maintenance. After the theory component, students can schedule practical lessons online, allowing for a flexible learning path that integrates both classroom knowledge and real-world application.

Flexible Packages and Exam Preparation

Johnston’s caters to various needs with different packages, including intensive courses for those short on time and specialized road test prep. A standout feature is the inclusion of a warm-up lesson and the use of the school’s vehicle for the actual ICBC road test. This allows students to acclimate to the car’s handling and test routes beforehand, significantly boosting confidence. The administration team is noted for being responsive and accommodating, helping students schedule lessons and exams even with tight deadlines or last-minute changes.

A Supportive Learning Environment

Beyond technical driving skills, the school emphasizes building confidence and reducing driving anxiety. Instructors are commended for their encouraging feedback and for creating a relaxed atmosphere where students feel comfortable asking questions. The school also serves experienced drivers from other countries looking to adapt to Canadian road laws, as well as parents seeking reliable training for their teenagers. With competitive pricing and a focus on customer service, Johnston’s Driving School provides a holistic experience aimed at ensuring students not only pass their test but also become safe, capable drivers.
