Negative experience: I completed my in car lessons with FRD in April of 2024, and have since gotten my license, but my experience with the FRDS in-car lessons were not pleasant. My instructor was rude, unprofessional, and would rush through all of my lessons. He would raise his voice at me when I made mistakes and would strongly berate me for making mistakes and asking "dumb" or "obvious" questions that beginner drivers would inherently have. He made me cry numerous times. On one particular occasion, he told me that he was CERTAIN that I would fail my test. Despite being a driving instructor, who is someone that is supposed to build confidence in their students - he completely stripped down and ruined mine. Not to mention, he also didn't even teach me all of the required prerequisites for my G2 test. I completed my in car lessons with FRD in April, but had to relearn everything and get additional lessons back in my hometown. Complete waste of my money, and unfortunately my experience with FRD played little to no part in me actually getting my license. With that being said, the customer service staff were quite nice, but that's about it.

He was funny and entertaining me through the lesson and at the same time made every effort to make me successful in my drive test. I acknowledge he postponed his few lessons for me on my drive test day to have me practice since I was also using his car. Amazing, understanding and helpful instructor.

Negative experience: I had a very disappointing experience with my driving instructor while preparing for my G2 test. On the way to the examination center, I was told, "I do not see how you will pass." This comment was not only discouraging but also unprofessional. Despite this, I managed to pass the exam successfully. After passing, I was bombarded with requests from the instructor to leave a positive Google review. I find it concerning that instead of focusing on constructive feedback and support during lessons, the instructor prioritized soliciting reviews. This experience has left me questioning the professionalism and teaching methods of this driving school. I would advise potential students to consider other options where instructors are more supportive and respectful.

Fantastic experience: I had Jayde as a driving instructor and she went above and beyond to help me get my license, if it wasn't for her I would not of passed my road test. She is very patient and explains everything to you in detail, her explainations and maneuvers are very detailed. She has her own teaching style and it is extremely helpful, I recommend her to everyone and I plan to request her to teach my daughter in a few months when she turns 16. Definitely a 5 star rating for her.

Fantastic experience: I had Steve Margison as my instructor for all of my in car lessons and he was amazing. He was super easy to get in contact with and was very flexible with rescheduling when i got COVID. He was super kind and eased many of my nerves, he provided good tips and was incredibly patient. I would highly recommend requesting him as your instructor if you're signing up for lessons, I always hear horror stories about instructors but Steve proved all of those wrong. 100000/10 for him :)

I booked one of the G test packages which included a one hour lesson before my G test, as well and the use of the instructors vehicle for the test itself. Fantastic experience: I'm a tad older than most people who typically sign up for driving school, and still as nervous. I did online schooling at my own pace because I have a full time job and family, the online course was great, easy to understand and broken into small segments. After my classroom time was completed I got to have my driving lessons and I had the most wonderful person for my instructor! Jayde was confident, engaging, she was informative and made you feel comfortable. I really appreciated all of her feed back and help, her clear and calm instructions made sure I was successful in learning to be a safe driver and passing my course. Fantastic experience: I firstly sent an e-mail to the school asking for a couple of lessons 1 week before my G Road Test. In the same evening I got a reply from the instructor Salman Akbar. On top of being a smart and knowledgeable instructor, super acquainted with the transit in Kingston, he was such a kind and funny person. He did not save efforts when pushing you to give your best. And, by far, that was the best part of learning from him. Thanks to him I learned everything that I needed for my road test, such as shoulder check, advanced signals, and how to safely drive the highway. He was also very fair and honest when telling you about your weaknesses and, most importantly, how to avoid mistakes and improve your driving. Out of his lessons I passed on my first try. Salman was the best instructor I could ever find, and I totally recommend his work to anyone looking forward to be a driver in Canada.

Negative experience: My daughter’s in-cardriving instructor was awesome and helped her improve her knowledge and skills immensely, but the people running the business are extremely hard to get in touch with and do not respond to emails or phone calls in a timely fashion. I had to email and call repeatedly to get anywhere. Using again for my son solely because the in-car instructor in our area is so good. The price is decent also, but otherwise would not recommend.

Negative experience: I enrolled my grand daughter in this course. We had terrible customer service from Adam. He was extremely rude and inconsiderate. They were not able to provide the in car lessons and were not interested in trying to work something out with another instructor. It was like nope the instructor is no longer with us and we can’t help. This happened just before Christmas and the lessons needed to be done before Jan 5th. Needless to say we were left scrambling. Thankfully we were able to get her enrolled with the Preferred Driving School where they were able to provide the incar lessons so she could finish in time. I would definitely not recommend First Route Driving School.

Fantastic experience: I had my driving classes with instructor Salman sir, i have very good experience , the way he explain the rules of the road to me were very helpful and contributed to my understanding and also helped me to improve my driving skills. So overall his effective teaching methods, clarity in explanation and responsiveness to questions and positive learning experience.

Positive experience: I went to driving school with very minimal experience driving and after my 5 times seeing Steve B, I feel way more comfortable with my driving. He was always trying to make conversation and overall made you feel comfortable and confident with your driving. He also allowed you to see your mistakes and try to make corrections first without him having to show you, so that your able to see what you did wrong and try to fix it on your own, as you would while driving alone.

Positive experience: Great experience overall! I had Salman for an instructor and he was great. Every lesson was meaningful and concise. He's not afraid to tell it like it is, but he also makes sure to point out your strengths. He also gives just enough praise and interest in your personal life to keep you motivated, but not distract from the purpose of lessons. I passed my G2 test on my first attempt. I have one criticism with the school's communication, though. They took a while to send me my certificates for the online and road lessons, and to get me in touch with my instructor. I tried to contact them but only got vague explanations. I understand if there's a good reason for the delay, but I wish I could have at least understood why. They could have included that information in their communications. The school's costs were good, and I had no other complaints, but that one criticism prevents it from being five-stars.

Negative experience: Just watched a driving instructor in a white Toyota driving down Bath Road 20 to 30 km over the speed limit. Luckily there were no students in the car and he wasn't teaching someone to drive recklessly. I guess the rules of the road only apply to their students

After a bad experience with a driver in Ottawa, I was assigned to Tony who was, without a doubt, the most exceptional teacher. Tony was clear, patient, and explained things in a way that made sense. Tony was constantly reassuring that I was on the right track, he was professional, and made every minute of our lesson a learning experience. Tony - you are a gifted teacher and First Route is SO LUCKY to have you!
