Cedar Motorcycle Riding School

Fantastic experience: Just returned home after a successful Class 6 road test with ICBC on my first attempt. I say this because I owe it all to Randy and Katrina at Cedar Motorcycle School. They run excellent courses in a relaxed environment (get ready to meet some very friendly golden retrievers), and adjust their teaching to match the individual student's readiness, learning needs, etc. They are clearly very educated and experienced in motorcycle riding. They are approachable, friendly, and pretty damn funny as well. At 62 years old and as a new rider, I did not hesitate to take three courses with Randy and Katrina: the 4-session MST course, and two traffic courses, one with Randy and the other with Katrina. It was helpful to have different instructors for the same traffic course as their different styles increased my learning. Same content, just slightly different delivery -- and both very effective. Also, it turned out that the route we took on the traffic courses was the exact route required on the road test -- what a bonus! As someone with a cautious nature coming to motorcycling a little later in life, I say to anyone considering this sport: call Randy and Katrina immediately and get as much of their expert instruction as soon as possible! Form good habits early. When you're holding your Class 6 license in your hand, you'll be glad you did. I certainly am!

Fantastic experience: July 2024 I attended the Cedar Motorcycle Riding school. Randy is an excellent teacher and came highly recommended. He did not disappoint. There is no way to fully explain his method, but he is genuine. His teaching style is thorough and to the point. He brings in many many years of riding experience with him. Away from the classroom Randy is a coach. He effortlessly teaches and trusts. I highly recommend the two night and two day safety course.

Fantastic experience: Just finished the MST course, it was amazing. Randy and Katrina are great, funny and extremely knowledgeable. They work with you and aren't afraid to correct your wrongs and see it everytime. They have a wide variety of bikes to try which is great to see what style you like. The confidence and safety knowledge I have from them I will never forget. I would travel from Victoria to Nanaimo any day to take another course. Randy genuinely cares and is excited about what he teaches and one of the best instructors I have ever had in any industry.

Fantastic experience: Absolutely incredible would highly recommend everyone was super friendly lots of great jokes helped me brake some bad habits learned a ton more then I thought I would very skilled and helpful instructors!!

Fantastic experience: Thank you Randy for all that you taught me this summer on your MST course. Yesterday I completed the road test and passed very well. For anyone looking to get into riding motorcycles take lessons regardless of past experience. I learned so much from Randy and still have more to learn but at least now I know the necessity of defensive riding/driving. Left hand turning cagers can kill or injure you if you are not always scanning and paying attention.

The way you are as a person, and the way your are around motorcycles, made me fee confident as a participant. I passed my road test on Tuesday afternoon and it was partially due to the knowledge that your course teaches. The only concern I had about the test that I could control, was the u-turn. I did it relatively well, all things considered. You were spot on about the u-turn location: dead end, wide enough for cars to park on street. Anyway, hope you’re doing well. Thanks again. Fantastic experience: Randy and Katrina are fantastic, they make the course a lot fun. I have been riding off road for years and wanted to gain some road skills for my new hobby, so I took their course/MST. They go through all the beginner basics, but include some additional knowledge of clutch work and touch on higher speed turns. Push right to go right, simply FANTASTIC. Thank you very much Randy and Katrina, I feel more relaxed street riding, even in traffic.

Fantastic experience: Came for the lessons, stayed for the golden retrievers. Randy and Katrina are fantastic instructors. So good, that you don't even realize you are learning. Spent the better part of 4 days with mosquito ridden evenings, monsoon like weather, and scorching sun. Through it all Randy kept morale up with and endless parade of jokes and witticisms while he and Katrina patiently walked us through the series of drills. If you do take a course with Cedar Motorcycle, say hi to 'Brat' for me ;)

Fantastic experience: I joined Randy and Katrina for a weekend motorcycle skills course (with MST) in May 2023. I had absolutely zero experience on a motorcycle and very little idea of what to expect. Despite my inexperience, Randy and Katrina managed to get me up and riding over the weekend, passing the skills test, and now hitting the road with heaps more confidence and riding comprehension than I had going in. I can't imagine getting into riding without taking a skills course first, and I can't imagine a better course experience than that provided by Cedar Motorcycle Riding School. Fantastic experience: Randy and Katrina are awesome. Aimed at all experience levels and a great learning environment. All the slow speed skills you could ask for starting out and the MST at the end seems easy compared to what they get you to practice.

Fantastic experience: Took my mst course with this company, first time riding a motorcycle, and I passed my skills test. Randy and Katrina are excellent instructors with tons of knowledge to help guide you. They have plenty of bikes to choose from to practice on, and the bike you think you may like might not be for you. Go at your own pace, listen and keep trying. Practice is the key. I made friends and felt like family under their guidance. It's clear they love what they do and I would highly recommend newbies to learn with Cedar Motorcycle Riding School. Fantastic experience: I give test three time and I fail three time and finally I came to cedar motorcycle school and he gave me best knowledge on how to a ride motorcycle. When test came I passed on the first minute of the test. Would recommend him to anyone who wants to ride motorcycles

Fantastic experience: It has been an absolute pleasure being part of Randy's courses and getting to know him and his wife (and his animals!!). It has been a great course with very honest and revealing information about true-life situations, physics, function and practice. The atmosphere provided gives a sense of levity while providing facts, information and a pursuit of 'truly 'knowing' for ourselves' - individually - what we must expect from the bike, as opposed to what we may think we know. Great course! Great people! Met new friends! Ready to ride!

Fantastic experience: From a person who had never really rode before to feeling totally confident in riding and enjoying the road on a motorcycle. I appreciate the process Randy uses to help me understand the motorcycle, riding, and awareness for riding confidently moving forward. He was a patient instructor who enjoys what he does and genuinely wants riders to be safe. It was fun and informative course, it does help to go in with the attitude for learning and being a classmate as well as have great classmates who want to promote safe riding. Fantastic experience: I have been riding since 1975 and recently took Randy's advanced course for handling bikes at slow speeds. As expected I knew some of the techniques however and also as expected I took some nuggets away with me. Thanks Randy for the great work you do. Pushing this 950 pound plus bike just got a lot easier and safer at slow slow speeds.

Fantastic experience: Randy is down to earth, has a great selection of bikes and is incredibly thorough with his process. I learnt so many crucial things that have already saved my life several times over. Before the course I was trying to teach myself and constantly stalling the bike, had no clue how to do truly tight turns from a stop, and clutch/throttle control. I took him up on some private riding training to prepare me for my ICBC road test and because of his training, I was able to Ace the test, complete all maneuvers and I am now beginning to pursue my dream to Race Motorbikes and taking racer training courses in Vancouver. I always highly recommend that ANYONE riding a bike take his course, to ensure you are starting your journey with strong and correct fundamentals. His ongoing support as a friend and giving back to the biking community by hosting events and get togethers is awesome too.

Fantastic experience: Randy was an excellent instructor. The detailed care and clear guidance that he offered in his advanced theory program has become central to how I ride a bike and the more I ride, the more it's all coming together for me. The five people in the course were all at different levels. Randy took the time to care for everyone individually. You get what you put into it - practice as much as you can while having Randy there for guidance. Cost very fair for the intensive, thorough course. Randy's a pro!

Fantastic experience: Never rode a bike before and in the course of four days Randy taught me what I needed to pass the MST. I learned a lot of great safe riding skills that I use everyday. He also took me out prior my road test and I passed the road test with flying colors and ZERO demerits. Highly recommended! :)

Fantastic experience: Great course that really prepares a new rider for the MST. Randy has the experience and training to inspire confidence and safe maneuvering, while delivering his unique curriculum in a relaxed, fun environment. Small classes, a variety of bikes to learn on, and burgers on Sunday. Cedar Motorcycle School sets the bar.

Fantastic experience: I took Randy's course a couple of years ago and HIGHLY recommend him!! I knew nothing about bikes or riding (had only been a passenger) and what he taught in 4 days has stayed with me ever since. I still hear his voice as I'm approaching every intersection, and see that car waiting to turn left. Thank you Randy!!

Fantastic experience: At the age 53 to start with motorcycles was not easy decision, I'm sooo glad I did and with Randy's help it was way too easy. First year I did 28 000 km and still can't get enough - Thank You Randy !!!!!

Fantastic experience: I took the course to cross learning to ride motorcycles off my bucket list. With Randy's help I am now enjoying riding for my second season with a full license. It wasn't always easy, but worth it!

Fantastic experience: Even with having a little bit of experience on a bike, Randys course taught me alot. Just just about riding, but about Maintenance and care for bikes which is really helpful. It's tough to know what to google if you don't know what you're looking for.

Fantastic experience: Randy was a great instructor. Was on his first course of 2017. The weather created a bit of a challenge ( snow in March on the island.. go figure). We had to adapt the class.. but all went well. The instruction was very informative, and will hopefully continue to keep me safe on the road...keep up the great work!
