He knows what he is doing being a professional trainer. Had very bad experience with valley driving school. That was wastage of my money. Over 20 student in class and rude behavior. Fantastic experience: I just completed the Dedicated Rider training course last weekend (June 2024) and was very satisfied and impressed with each of my experiences. The sign up process was simple and straight-forward. I chose a date 2 months into the future from the time of registration to ensure I had plenty of time to complete the online portion of the training prior to the week of classroom training (1x 3 hour session). I repeated a few of the sections to be sure I absorbed and retained as much of the information as possible. It could easily have been done in a day or 2 without breaking a sweat, but both work and home responsibilities made me nervous that I would not have the chance to finish on time. Turns out I would have had plenty of time, and the closer to the course is better for retention anyways. I had the occasion to send questions by email, and they were always very quick to respond with full and complete answers to my concerns. The classroom learning was similar to the online learning and felt like a natural extension and next step from the self-guided part. Walking into the course with the other students felt like walking into a friendly community of like-minded and eager students. I can't really give full credit to 1st Gear for this, but they definitely supported the idea of riding as a social activity. The material was all current and relevant, from safety and how-to tips to pointers on what to look for in a new or used motorcycle, places to get good prices on good gear, and more. The 2 days spent on the training lot (I attending in Richmond on Viking Road just east of Jacombs off Cambie) was a steady pace from the very basic safety riding concepts through all of the necessary drills that build the skills to pass your MST/MSA (Motorcycle Skills Test/Assessment) test that is required by ICBC. They have a good variety of smaller engine motorcycles available for you to learn on. With 10 people in my class (about average according to one of our instructors, Lee RideFar), there were people ranging in ages from 19 to 59 and with varying levels of previous experience, including at least 4 with no experience riding, or even driving a car with a manual transmission. They must be doing something right, because while everyone definitely learned at their own pace, every single person learned well enough to pass the test at the end of the weekend. We were lucky to have Lee, Mel and Noah as our instructors who all shared a clear love of riding and were amazing at delivering clear, simple and relevant information as well as answers to everyone's questions. I would highly recommend 1st Gear to anyone looking to learn to ride, upgrade their skills, get the license they should have gotten long ago, or just learn how to be a better, safer rider.

Fantastic experience: I recently completed the safety rider motorcycle course at Langley and had an amazing experience. The instructors, Adam and Kiefer, were very knowledgeable, supportive and all around great teachers. The classes were definitely worth the investment, even as someone with dirtbike experience. I now feel prepared to safely practice my skills on the road and prepare for my full license road test. Definitely recommend if you want to get into motorcycling.

Fantastic experience: Attending motorcycle training at 1st Gear was an exceptional experience from start to finish. I have not ridden in 25 years, I took a two hour "refresher" with my Superstar instructor Ted who was not only knowledgeable but also incredibly passionate about riding, which made the learning process engaging and enjoyable. Safety was always a top priority, with thorough instruction on proper gear, defensive riding strategies, and emergency procedures. One of the standout aspects of the training was the emphasis on camaraderie and community. I can't recommend motorcycle training at 1st Gear highly enough. Whether you're a novice rider looking to build a strong foundation or a seasoned rider seeking to refine your skills, this training will exceed your expectations.

Fantastic experience: I took my Motorcycle training through first gear! I had a blast! Adam was my instructor and was able to teach me how to ride in 3 days considering I have never been on a motorized bike. They even have road rides and rental bikes to get prepped for the road assessment. Hands down would recommend this school to all my friends.

Fantastic experience: Our class was taught by Keefer and Ted. Two of the most outstanding and humorous instructors I have ever come across. They were very direct and assertive with every single instruction enabling us students to better grasp the foundations of motorcycling. I couldn’t have asked for a better set of instructors. I highly recommend everyone take up this course if they are looking to dip their toes in the world of motorcycling. Keefer and Ted were all about safety and (REAL LIFE) scenarios, something that is looked pass if you are just taking the ICBC skills test. Fantastic experience: Adam and Kieffer will teach you how to ride in the short amount of time they have with you as long as you are willing to actively listen and apply. Trust that they are telling you what's best for your safety, and forget everything that you think you know. I appreciated the direct and honest feedback while taking the course. Don't be shocked if you get yelled at for making the same mistakes over and over. Those same mistakes out on the road could be fatal. But, also expect acknowledgement for doing things correctly. Fantastic experience: My wife and I just completed their course. Their staff are highly experienced and get you the skills you need to pass your MST. They cover some crash avoidance techniques not required to get your MST, and provide ongoing services to their students to make sure you enjoy a safe motorcycling experience. We haven't booked any road rides with them yet, but the basic corse includes 2, and their dedicated rider program includes 4. I am looking forward to building my skills to pass the road test, and maybe beyond with them. This is a great choice for motorcycle training, highly recommended.

I walked into this course never riding a motorcycle before, nor have I driven a standard so I didn’t have a basic understanding of clutches and gears, so I was as green as they come. 3 days later I was riding a grom and passed my MST on the first go. Fantastic experience: If you are looking for motorcycle school, THIS IS THE ONE. I came knowing less than nothing about riding, moreover, I've learned how to ride a bicycle only last year. So my case was kinda special. I took 3 days group classes and 2 individual trainings, and today I got out on the road, by myself. With almost no fear . Adam and Kiefer are absolutely amazing: understanding, supportive, knowledgeable, attentive. THESE IS ABSOLUTELY NO QUESTIONS ABOUT RIDING THEY CAN'T ANSWER. Lionel and Kiefer both did a fantastic job with the hands on motorcycle training. They were very fair and clear with their instructions and always encouraging us to ask questions. They all made sure that you understood the techniques and demonstrated the skill before moving onto the next step. I had a blast. Fantastic experience: as a new rider, i would highly recommend Adam and his crew/family at 1st gear, not only will you get a thorough understanding of safety but also have the opportunity to fully familiarize yourself with the motorcycle, controls and movement, which is perfect for new and returning riders, at first i was skeptical of moto schools and thought i could just wing the mst and go but after taking this course, i fully believe that if i didnt take the course id probably die within the first 2 years. 100% this course is probably the best you can take in BC if you are newish to riding and want to keep riding for years to come. (p.s. just passed the mst in the rain 1 hour ago :D) thank you again Adam!

Fantastic experience: This riding school was the perfect balance in order to learn how to ride a motorcycle for me. The instructors take full responsibility in making sure you develop the skills necessary to ride safely. I had zero experience on the controls of motorcycles before starting and in 1 weekend I am confident enough to say I understand what it takes to ride a motorcycle. Adam, Cat and Ted are the perfect balance of tough love and encouragement in order to gain a humble confidence that you will need on the road when the time comes.

Fantastic experience: Adam and Ted were amazing instructors. My wife was able to go from never riding a bike before to passing the MST test in a weekend. Once you have the basic principles down they go above and beyond with the skills they teach such as counter-steering through and around cones to simulate avoiding dangers on the road, emergency breaking situations, how to emergency break In corners, u-turns and much more. They teach to your experience level and challenge every student to be a better rider when they leave, whether you’ve never been on a bike or you have years of experience.

Fantastic experience: Adam was the best teacher I could’ve ever had! After the course I went to a Honda dealership and confidently bought a brand new Honda CB500F. Which I also got a great discount and free gear on, thanks to Adams techniques! I confidently rode the okanagan hills after just 3 days of learning! I couldn’t believe I’d learn to ride, but after 3 days I turned into a professional thank you Adam! I have yet to learn more, but everything Adam taught me. Fantastic experience: I took the new riders course last weekend and being the only girl in the class who's also 4'11 surrounded by big men, I was intimidated to say the least. Small talks with Adam really helped, made me feel more comfortable and took away from the nerves. Whenever I struggled with something, both Adam and Ray took their time to explain to me what I was doing wrong and what I can do to improve. They also let me know what I'm doing well. The first day on the lot, I fell behind on one of the first activities but Ray caught me up. Both Adam and Ray were super patient, not once did they ever get angry or upset when I dropped their bike. The U-turns were the hardest, I couldn't do it at all on the 1st day, but on the 2nd day on the lot, I managed to get it down, same with not stalling the bike. Again, both Adam and Ray really took the time to help with best practices on how to complete a proper U-Turn. I was honestly super worried about the MSA, I thought I was going to fail. When I asked Adam how soon can I retake the MSA if I failed, he told me that I would be fine and I ended up passing the MSA on my first try!! I would definitely recommend 1st Gear for any future riders

Fantastic experience: Finished the course today and it is the best decision taking it here in 1st Gear. Amazing and extremely talented teachers that cares for you. ADAM ("Looking down and seeing what's in your odometer when stopped is like your IQ lol"), RAYMOND ("Look where you're going, the pavement isn't your destination"), TED ("Commit, Commit, Commit!") and KATHY ("Awsome Cheerleader!") they are the best! THE BEST! They're strict but informative, serious but fun. Not only do they teach you how to ride but they will engrave safety in your brain which is vital for riding. They will push you to be better but they won't rush you. They will make  sure everyone is on the same page and make sure you're not falling behind. They will point out what you're not doing correctly and what you're lacking on and they will guide you thoroughly to be a better rider. All the praise and thank you so much to the Langley Team. Enrolling to the course is an amazing investment, no doubt! Will definitely spread the word about 1st Gear and recommend to family, friends and people interested in riding. *Prepare and take some Tylenol every after lot training :D

Fantastic experience: Took the new riders course with Adam as my instructor and Jason as an assistant. Both were very helpful and informational. Adam was strict and would raise his voice but only because he wanted to place emphasis on what it means to be a SAFE rider for people who are new to motorcycles. The best thing I gained from this course wasn't just the MST pass but also the ideas on how to be safe on the road and protect myself from external dangers. Every time Adam saw me do something that could lead to potential injury or death he always pulled me aside and told me those maneuvers can easily get me hurt. Now with my MST passed, I can stay safe, have fun, and enjoy the rides! Adam is a very ethical teacher and truly cares for his students' well being.
