Rider Training Institute: Reviews
Fantastic experience: I have to shout out 3 amazing instructors. Ted, Warren and Jason were absolutely brilliant during my training on October 19&20 in Toronto. They were so patient yet informative and helpful. Thank you guys for making my first motorcycle experience an absolute pleasure.
Fantastic experience: My experience likely isn't like others due to severe intractable pain. I wasn't sure how much pain it would cause me over 18 hours!!. I had one month of practice prior to going due to an insurance company willing to insure 1 month prior to give practice but with the promise of passing the course and getting my M2, which I did. I recommend practicing prior to going if you can. I have a street bike, so I was used to riding already by watching a ton of videos and going every day. Ottawa location was great. Not the best with names right now but Brittany and the other two instructors were very supportive and were willing to give me an extra hand. They knew I had pain and encouraged me a lot. I'm reading the 1 stars to see that their complaints only to quickly pass people through may simply be true due to high demand and only so many resources. Don't go to training with a bad attitude that you know everything or you likely won't pass. You can only get better by listening and doing and that's what creates a good rider. I felt the training was comprehensive.
Fantastic experience: Just took the m2 course and loved it! all the instructors super helpful and friendly! It gives you a great understanding of the basics of riding
Fantastic experience: Completed the M2 exit course with my husband and friend and had Gerry as our instructor. A blast of a day! The course was scheduled for 730-430 (ended up being earlier with only 3 people) and started off with half hour of paper work and making sure bikes were safe to ride. I was nervous that there were no comms during the training portion, but it felt like the M1 exit course but on real roads. He would give us instruction, we go do it, and meet back for feedback and next instruction. My group was confident riders and the same skill level so I think that made the day easier. The day flew by. The mistakes I made on the test were things I caught as I was doing them and KNEW I should/shouldn’t have because Gerry mentioned them during instruction. Nothing on the test was new. Was a great day and would recommend Gerry and team!
Fantastic experience: Just completed my M2 course this weekend at the Canadian Motorsport Park. I would highly recommend RTI to anyone looking to get on a bike, the lessons taught build upon each other and ensure you understand the fundamentals/feel confident and safe while you're riding. I had barely any experience on a motorcycle prior to this weekend, our instructors Pablo, Warren and Matt were absolutely awesome. They were patient, enthusiastic and very knowledgeable.
Fantastic experience: Amazing experience! 1000x worth it! Went from never riding a bike to feeling super confident and passing! I attended the M2 course in Guelph, and the instructors were all so nice, welcoming, and reassuring while teaching new skills, and providing all the tips to make it better for me during practice exercises. Really so glad for having Mark, Jonathan, Matt & Ibrahim! Couldn't have passed without their continuance patience, support and guidance. You truly feel like they are rooting for you, and that's a big confidence boost! Highly recommended this course, it's so much fun, and they guys are awesome! Happy riding all!
Fantastic experience: Did my beginners riders training course and got my m2 with RTI in oakville. All the instructors are absolute first class and really are so passionate about teaching us how to ride safely. Special shout out to Fred, Milan and Warren for being amazing! Thank you so much!
Fantastic experience: I just finished RTI’s M1 exit this weekend in Ottawa. Our instructors were Dave, Adam and Brittany. This course was fantastic and all our instructors were superb. Everyone in attendance had such a good time and we all passed. I highly recommend anyone in need of training to go with RTI. Money well spent!
Negative experience: I recently attended the Rider Training Institute in Oakville to get my M2 license. I was trained by John, Ed, Ibrahim, and Warren Rees, with Warren as the main instructor. All the instructors were supportive and helpful throughout the course. However, I encountered an issue with the Honda CBR125 (bike number 193) I used, which had difficulties with gear changes. Despite my experience with motorcycles and manual cars, I struggled with the timing for gear changes. The instructors advised me to keep my foot under the pedal for 2 seconds to shift gears, but despite following this advice, I received feedback that I was riding slow due to not changing gears on time. Unfortunately, this timing issue led to my failing the test.It is worth noting that I never fell off a bike during the course. I am attaching photo of the bike which I used for the test(Honda Cbr125) and the bike was I was not allowed to use (Yamaha).
Fantastic experience: I just completed my Riding Strategies M course with Marlon. He was an AMAZING instructor. Very knowledgeable. Highly recommended course AND instructor. I passed and got my full M license! Thank you to Marlon and his partner Greg.
Fantastic experience: I did my M this Sunday. Everyone was telling me to go to ministry straight to save some money but taking this course was totally worth it if you want to be safe on the road and I must say Mark is an amazing person and he has wealth of knowledge and tips when it comes to stay safe on the road. Thanks Mark for making our session fun and valuable . see you on the road
Fantastic experience: Amazing Instructors, really made me feel confident in my ability to learn, they had a gentle yet effective way of teaching. Jonathan is very funny and keeps the mood light to ease the stress of learning a new skill. And Jen really helped my believe in myself when things werent going well.Highly recommend for anyone looking to learn to ride
Fantastic experience: I got my M2 license in May 2017 and obtained my full M in August of 2019 through RTI. Felt very lucky that I chose this program. Wish I could remember the names of all the instructors because they were all so great. Kind, considerate, and patient. I was able to take my first cross-Canada trip shortly after my M2 and greatly appreciated the skills I learned through this course. They made me a confident driver, which has saved my life more than a few times. Well worth the money and time spent, highly recommended.
Fantastic experience: I'm a 5'1 young girl with absolutely no experience on a motorcycle. My family thought it was ridiculous that I even got my M1. I took the M2 course with Stu and 3 other instructors in Mississauga and they were the sweetest and kindest teachers I could have gotten. I went from constantly stalling and terrified of touching the throttle, to gaining enough confidence and skill to pass the M2 exam in only 2 days. Throughout the course, I was consistently assisted and corrected, and their smiles and reassurance encouraged me to keep practicing. After the course, Stu even offerred me some advice on what are the best bikes to purchase for my driving level, and what I can do to improve my driving and be safe. I don't think I could have done it without these amazing people and I definitely plan to return for my M safety course. Thank you RTI for my warm and wonderful introduction into biking.
Fantastic experience: Mark Mckeown is an great instructor he is calm and he knows how to teach . Great experience learnt alot .
Fantastic experience: This half-day refresher course was exactly what I needed. Rider Training Institute does things a little differently, and that was also exactly what I needed, honing some of the skills I already had. Jen, our instructor, was awesome. No question. Small class, and all relevant skills were done, then stirred and repeated. Great stuff. So great, in fact, that I'm signing on for more courses (whether private training or something else). See my past history, below, for more. Past history. I had taken a lengthier refresher last fall, after not having been on a bike for many, many years. I obtained my M-class license a long time ago, so I wasn't after that. I had hoped to ride with my best friend in Crotia this past February, but it didn't happen. So ... back to another refresher because I wasn't confident enough. I'd highly recommend this company for *your* training needs.
Fantastic experience: Highly recommend! Got my M2 with RTI and the experience was great. Very professional staff, walking us through everything we need to know and taking it very seriously. Warren is an amazing instructor, able to simultaneously inspire riders and prepare them for the many dangers on the road.
Fantastic experience: Showing up to this course I had 0 confidence and 0 experience, in a matter of two days this amazing crew of instructors , Pablo, Matt , and Dave helped make this experience amazing and boosted my confidence level through the roof , extremely nice people and great teachers , 100% reccomending this m2 safety course!
Fantastic experience: Very professional course! Theory was very informative and interactive. M course practical I had Marlon Pollock as my trainer. Extremely knowledgeable. Talented senior instructor. Has a unique ability of making the course fun but cautiously strict and serious. Highly recommend the RTI course
Fantastic experience: I took the M2 course in Ottawa on May 18th, and 19th, and had a great experience. I learned more than I thought I would with the fantastic instructors Michelle, Melanie, Mangaljit, and Todd. They all took time to give personalized advice on how to improve your riding during practice and made it an enjoyable experience. I would recommend RTI to anyone who wants to improve their riding.
Fantastic experience: I did both my M2 and M licensing courses with RTI, and had a great experience both times. The admin staff and the instructors are all super friendly and encouraging throughout. I highly recommend RTI to anyone who is looking to become licensed to ride!
Negative experience: Initially I wasn't going to write a review but felt compelled after a poor experience. To make a long story short, I took the M2 course with RTI at the polson pier location. The instructors felt very disengaged and the whole thing felt very rushed. One of the instructors was simply yelling at students when instruction was rushed through. It made the overall experience stressful. On the test, we were given very little information in terms of how we would accumulate points and ultimately I failed. I needed more practice and that's on me. But when I signed up, I was told I would have the option for a free retest. Once I failed, I was told I could take a free retest, BUT there would be not time to practice or get further instruction, not even 15 minutes to get familiar with the bike, and that I would show up, if and why they had availability, and would have to hop on a foreign bike and take the retest. In order to get any practice, I would have to pay $80 an hour for private lessons, which I have no problem with, but the whole thing felt very impersonal, like they were just trying to rush as many people through the course as possible. When I called the office to say I had a bad experience and that I wanted to withdrawal to enrol with a different school. No one even asked why. I ended up retaking the whole course from scratch with Learning Curves. The experience was a night and day difference. The instructors, though younger, were very passionate, engaged and wanted to help as much as possible. It felt more personal like they were invested in your success, as opposed to just rushing as many people through the course like RTI. I wasn't going to post but the lack of acknowledgement when I said I had experience, coupled with how good of an experience I had with learning curves really compelled me to post so the next person doesn't make the same mistake.
Hi David, We are sorry to hear about your experience at your course. The instructors do spend around 30 minutes talking about the test and how you can gain points. We also send an email to those who require a retest that mentions you will receive 45 minutes of practice before taking your retest. This email also mentions private lessons for extra training, but that it is optional. We would have discussed this with you as well when you called. We are happy to hear that you were successful in gaining your M2 and wish you well on your riding journey.
Fantastic experience: I completed your training course in St Catharines this past weekend . The course agenda was well thought out and it was a great learning experience . From going in as someone who had never ridden before to finishing with great confidence and an abundance of new skills. This was all possible because of the amazing job done by Dave & Wes. There attention to detail was great and there people skills were second to none. Whoever is lucky enough to get either one of these 2 as instructors are truly fortunate. Thanx, Mario
Fantastic experience: Patient, knowledgeable, experienced instructors in Ottawa last Fall. The coached us through the rainy days and took the time to explain any concerns or questions before and after each segment of training. I appreciated that there was constant feedback of how I can do better, what I can adjust to ride better at every stage. Moral support was equally as important when you are learning something that is inherently dangerous if not done correctly. After the exam, we got the results privately while the rest of the group had an assembly with practical information on all aspects of owning a bike including insurance, maintenance, and any other questions. All questions were welcomed.
Fantastic experience: I did my M2 and M courses here. I thought both courses were run well, had good instructors, and were useful. The M course is limited to 4 students and 1 instructor which keeps the ratios low. Great experience.
Fantastic experience: I can't say enough good things about RTI and their incredible instructors. I took a course at the Guelph location and it was great. Very friendly and knowledgeable instructors made the weekend a great experience! I highly recommend them. I'll be back for my M course!
Fantastic experience: Very highly recommended! Thank you Mark, Yoshi and Dave for all your guidance this past weekend. It's evident that they truly love motorcycle riding and just as much, training others how to safely ride. Each of them were very positive in their teachings and I will definitely recommend them, as well as use RTI in the future.
Fantastic experience: Excellent experience, excellent instructors. Jonathan, Ben and Fred were great to learn from, very organized and knowledgeable. I hadn’t ridden in about 15 years, they were very patient with brand new to experienced riders. Great detail in their demonstration of the drills, very comfortable to ask questions or clarification to ensure everything was done safely and efficiently. Highly recommend.
Fantastic experience: I completed the M1 exit course with Todd, Sharon, and Marisol in Ottawa. It was an amazing experience and I would definitely recommend it to anyone who is interested in riding. They explained the lessons clearly and effectively. By the end of the first day everyone was riding a motorcycle, even those with no prior experience. Marisol was incredibly supportive and offered really helpful tips. Sharon and Todd explained the lesson goals clearly and offered constructive criticism. After the M1 exit exam Marisol explained where we lost points and what areas we needed to continue to work on.
Fantastic experience: An extremely great course for experienced riders who want to polish up there skill and knock off some poor habits and beginner riders who need a confidence boost in the right way . The 3 days i spent with Kingtel, Brian, Warren & Evan they made me feel pretty comfortable & didn't judge me for my poor riding skill . I'm not the greatest of riders and needed alot of help . I know its only 3 days but jammed packed with alot of information that i didnt know before . They taught me riding slow is a skill of its own. Took the time to answer all my questions and reminded me being a " good rider" takes alot practice but with theyre knowledge and patience they pointed me towards the right direction. I feel much better & confident now knowing that riding isn't always about going " fast " but about taking my time scanning the road and using my brain and not just my right hand to throttle. " any average Joe can go fast " I learned that the hard way . I can't thank RTI and these four gentlemen enough. I'll definitely be back for more practice when getting my full M license . Thank you ! Having a license and being legitimate means everything to me. Happy thanks giving to all my instructors & everyone I met during my 3 days of being their. Once again thank you RTI .
Fantastic experience: Great experience!!!! Many thanks to Andrea, Pablo and Evan for not only teaching the proper riding skills, but also for making it enjoyable and for being supportive as we were progressing towards the testing . Highly recommend RTI and if your'e lucky enough to have Andrea, Pablo and Evan as your instructors, that is a bonus. See you for my M Exit Course!!!
Fantastic experience: Excellent motorcycle riding school, Mark, Warren & Brian are amazing and talented instructors (at the Etobicoke site). The way they structure the safety course for 2 days is really out of the box. I was able to meet people with no experience, leaving the course knowing how to ride a motorcycle in a safe way. I will for sure came back for a "Riding Strategies M" in the future! Thanks one more time for you guys (Mark, Warren & Brian)
Fantastic experience: Thanks very much Kris I had a wonderful 2 days and I'm so glad I ended up at RTi! Everything you did was fantastic, encouraging, and informative. I learned something from all the guys to help me understand how to put it together and to keep me trying to improve and keep safe even after I leave you fellows. I would highly recommend RTi to anyone wanting to approach motorcycling to learn it a safe fun way. Please share my sentiment to Greg, Chen, and Callis. Sincerely Mike Hoffman
Fantastic experience: Did the M2 course this weekend at the oakville location. Man, it was fun/knowledgeable and an incredible experience. The instructors were incredible, patient, very relatable and above all respectful. Huge thanks to RTI (chris, dexter, jason and matt). Greatly appreciated. Will definitely come back for my M course, hoping to have these same guys.
Fantastic experience: Amazing Org, learned a lot & had a great time Thanks again Mark, Warren & Brian! I couldn’t have asked for better instructor
Fantastic experience: Took the M2 exit course at the Guelph location to upgrade my license and help with insurance. Went into it with a little bit of experience but it was great for breaking bad habits and learning new ones. Sharon, Matt and Milan made the course feel more like summer camp, lots of fun but still very informational. Highly recommend to anyone considering.
Fantastic experience: Riding trainingInstitute Oakville so I had my course September 2nd and 3rd with my theory class August 31st I did pass however I am a little bit of a person that likes to worry a lot so I did get 11 out of 12 but I still passed points however this seriously improved my writing skills because I was always told to use the front brake as an emergency brake and I had to completely forget that because that was wrong as well as positioning my feet backwards onto the peg and simply dragging the rear break. although I learned a lot thanks to my instructor Fred Dave Marlin and I forgot the other one I'm so sorry I'm just a bit tired however I really liked a lot of The Institute trainers and sometimes they may seem like they're screaming at you they're not and it was a really good experience I highly recommend it you learn so much within the two days. thanks I'm going to be back in 18 months with my M license with you guys
Fantastic experience: From the moment I signed up to the completion of my M2 the service and communication was absolutely brilliant. I was nervous being a new rider with no experience. I arrived at the course at Brock with Dave and Ed as my instructors and they were amazing. Calm helpful and explained everything thoroughly. I never felt rushed or unsafe. If you are looking for a course that offers amazing service with extremely skilled instructors who are patient and wanting you to learn and succeed then this course is a must. Brock is well maintained by its instructors constantly making sure of sweeping and clearing any possible debris. I am so glad I went to this course. Thank you Ed and Dave (St Catharines site)
Fantastic experience: Excellent motorcycle riding school, Stephen and Jonathan are great instructors (at the Etobicoke site). I have never regretted the money spent, excellent instructors told a lot of theoretical life hacks, and after that they practiced for 2 days and drove extreme situations. They described the main points for maintenance the moto, suggested the gear is better to take, and a nice bonus in passing the courses is a discount in insurance after such courses, as well as discounts in a number of partner stores of the school.
Fantastic experience: Just passed my M2 course (Etobicoke) today! Steve and Jonathan are two of the best instructors I've ever had in any field. You couldn't ask for more. I rode for 10 years but stopped 14 years ago. I would recommend RTI to anyone both new and experienced. RTI has definitely built a strong foundation for my competance and confidence. Cheers!
Fantastic experience: I know that many people read reviews in order to make decisions, I will try to be objective in my comments. A few days ago I finished the RTI course/certificate, and without a doubt a rewarding experience in general. I understand that there are many centers/points where the classes are given, in my case it was Oakville, so my comments will be associated to that center. First the Human Resource, facts and thanks: Judy, John, Marisol and Matt (the instructors), are excellent people and professionals, each in their own special way. My immense respect for all of them, from their leadership and coordination, you can tell that they are an excellent work group, experienced and take their work very, very seriously, especially because I notice that their concern is that we are well prepared (for this I am very grateful, since their concern is my safety and that of others). The curriculum. It is considerably complete, taking into account the intensity of the course, for beginners I can say that it is extremely practical and convenient, for those who have a little knowledge it is excellent to polish their beginner skills. In terms of difficulty, I would say that from 1 to 10 it is a 4, but it has a lot to do with how it is designed that allows you to assimilate the techniques progressively, but without a doubt it is made even easier by the instructors I had (again thanks to Judy , John, Marisol and Matt) because they were detailed, understanding, constant and with the function of correcting for individual Progress. Important fact, if you manage to pass the course/exam at the end (which is very possible, because the real instructors focus on preparing you for the test) you will be able to go with your certificate, in the corresponding time, to validate it for your M2 . Location and conditions: the location is convenient, you have a place to park, at lunchtime there are places to eat nearby (remember, I'm talking about the Oakville location). You have break times and enough time for lunch. A lot of sun ☀️. Recommendations: bring plenty of water, if it's summer like right now the heat is blazing, rest as much as possible from one day to the next, because even if you don't notice it, your body will have fatigue because it's an important exercise that you do and add to that the heat. Bikes & Gear: the bikes are provided by the course, they are standard training bikes, small motorcycle engine displacement, of different models, some newer than others, but all in working condition. The Positive: if you don't know much about motorcycles, you can see options and have an experience in order to identify your taste (however, I understand that the orientation of the type of motorcycle will be given according to experience or whim). The downside would occur if many are interested in the same motorcycle model, so I don't know how it would be resolved, because in my course, there was no such situation, but I suppose there will be a procedure to resolve the case. Final message. Is RTI a good option? It seems to me that yes, I have no point of comparison, but something that makes me think that it was valuable and that I would return for other courses is because of the instructors that I had, since they went beyond what can be expected. So RTI, your value is not the bikes or even the program, it's actually the human resource, extremely valuable (advice to RTI: keep the good instructors like Judy, John, Marisol and Matt).
Fantastic experience: I completed my M1 exit course in Oakville a few weeks ago with zero motorcycle riding experience and was very happy with the course. Instructors Stu, Majed, and Matt were all very helpful, patient, and encouraging. The price is worth it in my opinion. I will definitely attend my M2 exit course with RTI in the future. Also, upon completion of the course, I received a booklet of coupons to use with various motorcycle dealers and gear suppliers as a nice added bonus.
Fantastic experience: I did the M2 training in North York with Pablo, Callis, Ted and Chris. They were very knowledgeable, patient and helpful. You get all the basics and lots of time riding. If you are new to riding I highly recommend this course. A special shout out to Pablo. Thanks for the hug when I got emotional after telling me I passed. :-)
Fantastic experience: First time on a bike and they really prepared me for the road! I learned A LOT from the M1 course and would highly recommend
Fantastic experience: Had a great M2 training program with RTI at their Etobicoke location. Our training leaders Stu and team has been amazing. Grateful that we have such passionate leaders.
Fantastic experience: I had a weekend, M2 course with Judy, Chris, and Fred. The combination of all of them is like the avengers. They are bringing me teaching style. And the accumulation of their styles it makes it less than hit you from every angle. I couldn’t have dreamt of a better team, working together to teach me. -Adrian
Negative experience: Their cancellation policy is just not right, I was a loyal customer for Riders Training and 2 days ago I got a foot injury that will stop me from taking the course and I can provide documentation of the injury. When I contacted them to explain the situation, they said you should’ve contacted us 7 business days before the course start and now you have 2 options, you either rebook for next year or cancel and in both cases you will be charged a fee $100 +tax. Very disappointed of the way they dealt with my situation even though I explain that my foot injury occurred after I entered the 7 business days period, they literally have zero consideration to customers circumstances.
Hello, We understand the circumstances in which you cannot attend the course, however, our cancelation policy can be found in the confirmation/reminder emails that we send to you when you book, as well as on our website. You can rebook your course this season for a fee but you had mentioned that you may not be available to do so. Under those circumstances, we offered to carry this over to next season, allowing you to book for just the rebooking fee.
Fantastic experience: Amazing experience! My husband and I Completed M course yesterday in Orangeville. It’s was an amazing experience. Steve was a great instructor. Thanks Steve. Highly recommend
Fantastic experience: I was recommended to RTI by my brother's, and I have to say the M2 course was amazing. VERY organized and we'll run and worth every penny. Special thanks to Ed and Sharron who were both fantastic instructors. Will gladly attend some more courses from RTI in the future.
Fantastic experience: The wonderful team of Andrea, Chris, Yoshi and Bill at RTI Oakville are magicians. When I came to the RTI training parking lot on Saturday morning, I have never ridden a motorcycle before. Yet Sunday afternoon I have handled how to do various basic and important manoeuvres. All these instructors are kind, inspiring, and caring about students. When you failed a move or get confused on a topic, they will repeat the key idea and explain in a detailed and patient way how to improve one's action, to make sure you learnt it thoroughly. On the other hand, they are professional and strict, taking their responsibility of setting a high bar on motorcycle training, so that we can stay safe and survive on the road. I feel I am quite lucky to have encountered such nice instructors as a beginner motorcyclist. I recommend team RTI Oakville to everyone who wants to build a solid skill sets for the M2 licence in Ontario.
Fantastic experience: Awesome place to get your M2 training done. I did my weekends class at the Oakville location. The instructors are amazing. I would definitely come back when I’m eligible for M. Thanks RTI
Fantastic experience: Before training, I never rode a motorcycle. This past weekend, I spent a lot of time with Gerry, Dave, Karen and Wes. They were fantastic. I have never worked with a team that was so in sync, knowledgeable and eager for you to succeed. They deserve a huge kudos (and a raise). I’ll definitely be back for my M2 exit. I can’t recommend them enough.
Fantastic experience: I completed both my M2 and my M courses at RTI and I loved it. The instructors are amazing and extremely knowledgeable, they go over every single detail and explain the "why" behind everything and answer all questions. The ladies at the office downtown have always also been very helpful and attentive every time I have called. A special shout out to Paul, who was my instructor for the M course, thank you for everything, your compliments about my riding mean more than you'll ever know!! I'm definitely getting an R6!!
Fantastic experience: I did the training in Ottawa with Todd, Michelle and Andy. They were very knowledgeable, patient and helpful. You get all the basics and tons of time actually riding. You can try 4 different styles of bikes and get comfortable on all of them. If you are new to riding I highly recommend this course. You leave feeling comfortable and confident but also understand what you need to work on and be aware of. Worth it just for the insurance savings alone but worth it for your own safety and knowledge.
Fantastic experience: I finished my M2 course this weekend ! Can not recommend this company enough . My instructors were Tod , Michelle and Andy extremely friendly and very informative , the environment is extremely positive everyone wants to learn and be successful . The instructors are very patient and always will answer your questions best to there abilities . The instructors want you to be successful as well so feel free to pull them aside to ask them a questions when they are free. They will gladly answer and help you ,the days go by quick the instructors always make sure you're having fun and being safe. Can't not recommend enough !! Thank you MTO Tod , Andy and Michelle
Fantastic experience: The Rider Training Institute really is the premier motorcycle training program in Ontario. I completed my M2 skills course with RTI as well as the M skills course to become fully licensed. With each course, my instructor, Kingtel, was able to expertly prepare me for the test and demonstrate the skills needed to not only obtain my license, but to be a truly safe and successful rider. I started having never been on a motorcycle before, and after a couple of courses and a few days of training with Kingtel and the RTI team, I am now fully licensed and completely confident in my riding abilities. If you are looking for a motorcycle training course, whether you are a beginner or an advanced rider, I highly recommend RTI.
Positive experience: I did the M1 exit course (for M2 license). The class size was a bit big (20 people). Most people had prior experience. I had no experience going in. The instructors were all very nice and helpful. I will say as a precaution, it’s hard to learn how to drive in just 2 days (8 hour days back to back). You have to be very focused. The bikes aren’t the greatest and you get to try out a few but after a while they want you to stick to one. You may get stuck with a bike that’s a bit too big in size or height or has a sh*tyy clutch. I tried a few and liked a Honda sport style one but the clutch was very sensitive so it kept stalling. I familiarized myself with it and was getting better. On the second day however, it was suggested I try another bike with a more forgiving clutch and brakes. This bike’s handlebars had different positioning and the feet placement was slightly different so it was like learning the steering control all over again at the last second. As a beginner it’s much harder to adjust to a different bike than the pros. I suggest if you’ve never ridden before, do an intro course FIRST because you’ll get more 1:1 attention. Overall the experience was good for learning, I learned a lot of skills but moreso through trial and error and when I got pulled off to the side for individual tips. The group instructions was a bit harder to follow. I would’ve benefitted from slowed down pace of instruction and specifically seeing when and which brakes/ hand options to apply for each section: turning, complete stop. The demos were fast paced so you can’t really see what the instructors are doing with their hands/ feet as well. I recommend as a woman trying the sports bikes if you are smaller because you’re closer to the bike, allows you to feel more in control steering wise, bit smaller and lightweight (although more leaned over) . I ended up testing with a bike with an old engine/ fuel tank and it was a bit heavy and I didn’t like the feel. If you feel confident in passing then this is a good course. If you are brand new and need more attention, I’d suggest other courses first before getting your M1 and doing the whole process because it can be expensive. Still had fun, great experience! Instructors were very supportive as well! You also get a free retest if you are unsuccessful which is nice but just make sure it’s within your m1 range. 2 weekends might’ve made it a bit easier as you’ll be very sore! :)
Fantastic experience: Wonderful riding school. Marlon and Marisol were fantastic instructors! Lots of knowledge, experience, tips and advice. Highly recommended and would definitely return for the full M riding course/test. Book your course now for the Toronto location. Look at that view!!
Fantastic experience: Absolutely amazing! Very professional, knowledgeable and friendly staff. Learnt a lot of driving skills and safety. Riding after 35 years and first time in Canada. Will definitely recommend to join the RTI training course. Well done guys! Keep it up! and Thanks.
Fantastic experience: Just some back history. I've taken the M1 exit with N.C. and did my M2 exit (first time) with the MTO (full back story too long). Having done BOTH the M1 and M2 exit with RTI , I can say with honesty that I wish I'd gone through them from the very beginning. The instructors are absolutely fabulous and very easy to work with. They just "get it" and are very patient. They offer excellent knowledge, the benefits of their experience and great advice. RTI admin (Anna) was very helpful with my inquiries. I didn't speak to her directly, but even through email you can sense that she's pleasant. I am just very happy that RTI was here to help guide me to (hopefully!) many years of adventure and wind therapy. I'm a mom of 3 so I really need that sometimes. Lol. I highly recommend them to everyone who is looking for some kind of safety/training course. I give them alot of praise. Ride safe everyone and enjoy!! ✌️
Fantastic experience: Just completed my M license in Oakville. Lloyd was a fantastic instructor. Very patient and spent time with all 4 riders through the day to make sure we were all safe during the testing day and for years to come.
Fantastic experience: I did my M2 plus my M and it was a blast great instructors and friendly thank you again hopefully my wife soon then my daughter for sure in 2 and half years
Fantastic experience: Just finished the course this past weekend (April 14th - 16th). Really knowledgeable group of instructors! With different ages so they are able to relate all of the participants. They tell you what you are going to learn. You do it. then they tell you what you learnt. Do this enough times and eventually it all starts to click. At no point in time did i feel surprised by any of the eventual procedures on the actual test on Sunday. Highly recommend!
Fantastic experience: Instructors are amazing! They really want you to succeed and work with you. Thank you so much Judy, Mark, Yosi, Jason, and Steven! Would highly recommend to anyone wanting to ride!!!!
Fantastic experience: I got both M2 and now M licenses with these guys and didn't ever regret it for a second. Great instructors who actually teach you to become a better rider not simply coaching you for the test. Totally recommend them to get you to the next level in riding a motorcycle.
Fantastic experience: I took the Introductory riding class today and words will never be enough to describe what an amazing experience it was with Mark and Warren. Both took their time to explain every single step for people with no riding experience and made it feel easy and fun at the same time! Thank you so much!
Fantastic experience: I was able to do my m1 exit course with RTI. Previous to enrolling I had no motorcycle experience, I can’t say that there weren’t bumps along the road of learning. But I left the course feeling so comfortable with riding. I know I need to improve still but now I can hop on a friends bike in a parking lot no problem. The variety of bikes was also extremely impressive. Even if I didn’t pass the course im sure I wouldn’t change a word to this review. Thanks again everyone.
Fantastic experience: Was lucky enough to sneak into the last M2 course of the season in Oakville because of a cancellation! And thanks to the lady in the office who called me on Wednesday. Instructors were great, Andre was super nice and patient , James and Jerry were friendly and nice and Dexter did a great job however he could be more considerate. Grownups don’t appreciate to be called “hey you “ just because they missed something.
Fantastic experience: Amazing instructors! Jen, Lloyd, Ed and Yoshi - truly 10000/10! I learned so much over the Sat. & Sun., I definitely want to do more courses with them in the future. I was very nervous going in, but feel so much better after leaving because I've been taught the skills necessary to be a better rider, I can't say enough how grateful I am for them!
Fantastic experience: Did the M2 weekend course. Fantastic, highly experienced and friendly instructors. It was my experience the company overall is comprised of a great group of people. An excellent choice if you want to learn how to ride a motorcycle efficiently, safely and responsibly. The Polson Street location is very accessible for anyone in the city.
Fantastic experience: Really good experience. I got M2 last week and staff(Judy, Greg, Warren, Catherine) was so friendly, knowledgeable, and organised. Definitely recommend for beginners :)
Fantastic experience: Had an amazing time doing my M2 course! The instructors, Marlon, Andrea and Warren were friendly, thorough and had me feeling super comfortable on my bike. Highly, highly recommend!
Fantastic experience: I attended the M2 course in North York over the weekend and it was a fantastic experience working with a very knowledgeable, helpful, and lovely instructors - Kris, Ed, Jason, and Jonathan. Thanks guys. All the lessons were organized and structured in such a way that I never found anything unclear or difficult.
Fantastic experience: This is an amazing program that I would strongly recommend! The staff are very knowledgeable and friendly and have a passion for motorcycles. This was a great opportunity to meet great people, delete some bad habits and ultimately have loads of fun with a group of awesome people who all have the same common interests. This course is a must for the M2 exit course and I promise you won't regret it.
Fantastic experience: Gerry was my instructor for full M test. Amazing teacher. And yes I passed. My wife's instructor was Malan. Same thing. My son did his M2 in Guelph. He passed as well (besides the fact that he learned a lot). Overall, I'll recommend RTI to anyone.
Fantastic experience: great institute for riding etiquettes, M2 license, motorcycle handling and much more. trainers are well experienced. the whole experience was great. recommend it. Michel, Caesar, Adam and Warren were amazing instructors. Very professional
Fantastic experience: Great bunch of folks at RTI. Went above and beyond my expectations. During my m2 course, the emphasis of safe and defensive riding was unexpected, vs other institutes" this if how you ride a motorcycle" that I've seen. Very impressed and thankful I decided to go with RTI
Fantastic experience: The M2 course with RTI was a wonderful experience. The instructors really care, and their progressive skill building approach was straight forward and worked really well to develop ability and confidence. I'd highly recommend RTI to anyone looking to get their M2.
Fantastic experience: This is one of the best schools out there, the Instructors actually care , aside from the fact that they are super nice and very Knowledgeable, the team in the office work so hard to accomedate students schedule I would so Recommend RTI to anyone newbiee or an experince riders ,the school has all the info you need!!! Espically the variety of the classes that they offer, the technical and the maintence courses are super awesome for anyone owns a bike really. This is the place you want to be connected with
Fantastic experience: I had a great experience last week taking my M2 exit for full M. Covid almost cost me another expired M2 ( first M2 expired cause i was slacking ) due to delays at MTO and no available tests for last two years or rest of 2022 across Ontario. The online part was great getting to do it from home, quick and informative. Took the course in Toronto on a Thursday during 40 degree heatwave, not fun but Andrea took steps to make it was as comfortable as possible. Andrea was very pleasant, professional, a bit of a stickler but since your life is in your hands and all the CrAzY drivers around you she wants you to ride safely and prepared ! She is an experienced rider, helpful, pays close attention to point out where you can improve and bad habits, I had a few bad habits, suggests how we can correct any issues and made sure each of us 4 taking the course had every question answered. That said . . . come prepared to ride ! And be safe ! Thanks Andrea for a great day ! ( BMW S1000 RR guy )
Fantastic experience: Just passed my M2 Exit or M with RTI this past weekend in Oakville. Like the M1 Exit or M2 I did with them, another amazing experience. Both our theory and our ride instructors who also did our ride test (they know who they are) were excellent! - They were firstly very experienced riders / instructors with so much knowledge which they shared with my group. If I could give more stars I would and would for sure recommend RTI.
Fantastic experience: This is my 2nd time completing the M1 exit course. The first time was through a college 3 years ago (I passed and got my M2 but my husband did RTI and after we compared notes, I wanted to take a refresher and see what RTI was all about). After comparing the two, I unequivocally would recommend RTI. I registered with the North York location (although, we ended up training at the Scarborough location across the street). Our four instructors were Chris, Chen, Jonathan, and Callis and between the four of them, I think they had ~50 years of riding experience. There was no doubt they knew what they were talking about. I really appreciated their coaching and feedback. Compared to my last experience, there was more time and repetition to practice each drill, there was more feedback given to each rider after each drill, and there is a better chance of obtaining your licensure after the course (even with option to repeat testing, which was not offered at the last place I went). I will sign up with RTI for my M2 exit course.
Negative experience: So yes this can be a useful course for new riders. Unfortunately some instructors use this teaching opportunity to flex their ego. So I am a somewhat of an experienced rider and one of the instructors Chris took it upon himself to make the lessons a bit more challenging for me then the other beginner riders. We were doing an exercise where the instructors rise a hand to indicate what direction they want you to quickly swerve in. Chris would wait till the last minute before giving me a hand signal (wayyy later then most riders were receiving their signal) and on one occasion he waited so long before giving me my hand signal there was no longer enough room for me to make the appropriate maneuver safely, and my front tire hit the first cone and caused the bike to slide out from under me. Chris should not have taken it upon himself to change the parameters of the exercise and assume it was safe to give me late signals. So when you drop a bike they make you fill out an incident report. No big deal. Chris intentionally left out the part where he gave the signal later then usual, so that his actions weren’t recorded in the incident report. Afterwards Chris tells me my helmet had touched the ground during the fall and I would not be able to continue. (My helmet barley touched the ground, BARELY FOLKS) I was absolutely fine and Chris himself even stated that he thought I was fine and knew I could continue. But due to this blanket rule that stated “if your helmet touches the ground then you are on concussion protocol” so I was no able to continue by their standards and not able to receive a refund. Chris could have made a judgement call and should have been able to come to the conclusion that a concussion would not have been possible from such a small event. So Egotistic Chris decides that I need to be taken down a notch. Instead of talking to me, he decides to make the exercise difficult for me. To the point where it is no longer safe. Then states my helmet touched the ground so I’m done. They act like doctors and tried asking me a bunch of questions, all which I was able to answer, no problems. And then say I cannot continue. They have no right to make the decision if I can continue or not due to medical standards, Wasted my money and my time and refused to rectify the situation. This was the Scarborough course. Maybe the instructors are better at other locations, but I got screwed over.
Hi Nik, It is unfortunate that your weekend ended as it did but as we explained over the phone, we must air on the side of caution in these situations. We cannot comment on what occurred at the course as we were not there, however, the offer we made to you to come back and complete the course at no cost, still stands. Feel free to contact us if/when you are available to do so.
Fantastic experience: I completed both my M2 and M with RTI and honestly, every instructor I've worked with/learned from has been awesome! The admin staff is fantastic!! They get back to you within a 24 hour period with everything you need to know. I would recommend this company to anyone who wants to learn how to ride. They offer great courses at very reasonable prices! Best experience!
Fantastic experience: First time riding a bike for me and the trainers were excellent. They gave me confidence and motivation when I kept getting frustrated with the clutch. Would highly recommend.
Fantastic experience: Hands down to RTI, I learned a lot from the 2 days training courses at the Scarborough location. I got my M2 yesterday . I just wanna say thank you to all the instructors. Chris W., thank you for the tips and feedback (especially the tensing up) and for sure I’m coming back for my M again. Rom, thank you so much for being patient with us and for all the tips during the course. Warren, thank you so much for the reminders and feedbacks. Maricel, thank you for the tips and for answering my questions (as a fellow short rider, I’m actually planning to get z400 after seeing your bike). Chris F., thank you so much for pushing us to push my boundaries and have more confidence while riding. Take care guys and keep up the great work .
Fantastic experience: Just finished the M2 license course with RTI and I am absolutely delighted to have done it with RTI. The instructors were clearly knowledgable and were very patient with new riders. (Thanks Milan & Warren!) Other students were also amazing, which saids a lot about the reputation of RTI. The instructor's enthusiasm completely made me hooked to motorcycle, hence I went out and bought a new one to continue this Journey. I am definitely doing the M license course with RTI, highly recommended! Some important note if you are taking courses in the summer: - sunscreen is an absolute must, otherwise be prepared for sunburn - Lots and lots of water - Make sure your gears are well prepared, the instructors take it very seriously and will remove you from the course if necessary
Fantastic experience: Amazing experience and the instructors made this course! Cannot thank the instructors enough M, W, F and C for their unreal teaching and they know how to build ones confidence !! HIGHLY recommend going through RTI. Will be going back to them in the future!
Thank you for your feedback. We are so glad you enjoyed your course.
Fantastic experience: If you live in Ottawa.....Please do yourself a favor and book with RTI.....through the Ottawa Good Time Center on Hunt Club. Zero complaints. I tried with Ottawa Safety Council last year as it was more than a little frustrating. OSC thinks they offer good customer service but they should be ashamed of their poor offering. I heard much of their staff is volunteers thus, they really don't know what they are doing. Plus, they have no sense of humor and actually make an already stressful experience even more stressful. Book with RTI and forget OSC.
Thank you so much! We are so glad you enjoyed your course.
Fantastic experience: Just finished the Riding Basics M2 Licensing course; hands down one of the best experiences of my life. The instructors were all extremely knowledgeable (as you would expect), but beyond that were supportive, kind, encouraging, and your own personal cheer squad. As a female rider, never having been on a bike before, I went into the weekend with a lot of nerves. I departed full of smiles, with confidence in my abilities, and a successful pass! 10/10 recommend! Will be back for the M2 exit course.
Fantastic experience: Geared to seeing riders succeed. Gerry, Wes, Jim Todd & Ed in Guelph ensured a weekend of encouraged and supported learning. Step by step they prepared a group of 20 to ride safely and confidently. It was really amazing to watch and feel the difference a day makes. Thank you!
Fantastic experience: I totally recommend these guys! Booking was easy online. They’re right on the ball and call you for a heads up when you book. During the 2 days training, the team do their best for you to learn the best safety measure and learn the skills you need for out there on the road. I had Rafal at the consumer road location for my training. He was very assertive and caring too. The rest of the team were all doing their best for us to leave the two days training with good riding habits. Also, I trained under Pablo. He was very encouraging. Even at the end, they gather us all and went through basic maintenance knowledge and shared great personal experience. Also, they run a theoretical zoom meeting about 3 nights before the first day, to get you familiar with needed gear and what to expect. I totally recommend this training institute. They rock!
Fantastic experience: Attended the Riding Basics M2 course in Guelph over the weekend and had a fantastic experience with a passionate bunch of instructors - Greg, Paul, Karen, Monique and Melanie. Excellent course structure emphasizing safety and handling skills required in the context of day-to-day riding. The instructors were very knowledgeable and managed to cover a lot of ground in just two days. They were extremely encouraging and friendly, patiently taking time to offer personal advice and recommendations to each of us. In particular, deeply appreciate Greg who went above and beyond to ensure I had a bike I was comfortable with. All in all, spent a very enjoyable (and tiring) weekend with them despite the inclement weather, and even picked up some new tips as an experienced rider of 13 years. Would definitely recommend taking courses with RTI.
Fantastic experience: It was absolutely amazing! The best experience in my life! All instructors we had are real professionals! I have no fear, they taught me how to ride a motorcycle in 2 days! these are amazing people! I will remember you forever and will definitely come back for my m full
Fantastic experience: Just went through their weekend session to obtain my M2 Licencing in Oakville from April 07 to April 10. Had Gerry, James, Jen and Andy. Their whole heartedly shared their knowledge base of at least 15 yrs riding experience EACH with encouragement, coaching and perspective. Never to old to start as they say. I am in my late 50s and I did it. A definite bucket list item I can now cross off. Thanks to each of you for your time,. Definitely came out of this weekend with more confidence and a different mindset. Motorcycling truly is a club of comraderies. Wishing all my classmates a safe riding career with longevity. Truly hoping to see you at some coffee shop or some incredible location within our travels. Respect to ALL. Graduating Class of April 10, 2022. G>)
Negative experience: I will never go with them again. I'm refused to get training for practical as my gloves were not leather. That's the only reason. I immediately got a new pair of leather gloves in just an hour and even then they refused saying the are done with 3 lessons. Now the office says to pay $ 100/- extra for rebooking the schedule or no refund at all. Absolutely checkmate for few more bucks. But the trainers at Guelph were very nice. I would never prefer Scarborough again.
Hi Vamsi, Thank you for your review. It's unfortunate that you experienced this, but when you did return with different gloves, too much time had passed, and you were unable to continue. Our gear guidelines can be found on our website as well as in the emails that we sent you when you booked. The instructors also go through this information with you during your theory class. As explained previously when we spoke, our policy states that students who do not bring acceptable gear will not be allowed to continue and that there are no refunds, and a rebooking fee will be charged. We are pleased to see that you were able to return and successfully complete your course. Enjoy your time on the road and ride safe.
Fantastic experience: I did my course in Toronto and the instructors were all great. Great tips, patient, and always had our best safe riding interests at heart. I had a great time overall and would definitely recommend RTI to new riders. Thanks RTI!
Fantastic experience: I had a wonderful experience with RTI’s M2 course. Weather impeded our second day of instruction, but they offered a new date super-quick. The instructors were so knowledgeable and helpful. You can tell they take pride in their work/workplace, are rooting for new riders to successfully complete the course and go on to love riding as much as they do!
Negative experience: I took their M1 exit course over the summer. I had a lot of fun riding the bikes, however, they were very old and beaten up and, as a result, I would always jerk when releasing the throttle. I’ll admit I wasn’t the smoothest rider but always being threatened by the instructors that I may fail doesn’t provide for positive confidence. My instructors were Marlon, Dale (or Dave) and Linda. The main reason for the 2 stars was because after the test results I found out I received a score of 7 (I didn’t stall the bike during the test and I didn’t have to repeat any parts of the test). They said I barely passed and emphasized I need more practice. That’s fine (I never hoped on a motorcycle before then so I didn’t think I was an expert). I’m getting to the point! I found out one person in my cohort who repeated the 2 of the 8 tests scored higher than m - a 4 (which to me makes no sense). That person also had other quirks but when someone does a redo it’s evident to the whole class. Anyways I passed but still left feeling bad because 1 of the instructors (Dave) kept emphasizing how much practice I needed. It felt like I didn’t even deserve to pass. I’ll be going to another school to do my M2 exit course. I’ve had a lot of practice on the road and the highway and (aside from beginner flaws) have been riding pretty smoothly - my bike is a newer model which helps. I have more to say but that’s the meat and potatoes
Congratulations on obtaining your M2 licence! We're sorry to hear that you had a negative experience. Our instructors encourage all students to gain more practice before going out on the road. We can't speak to your results, but if you contact the office we would be happy to look for them and discuss them with you further!
Fantastic experience: Amazing teaching. Steve’s team were amazing with all sort of supportive suggestions throughout the weekend. One of the best weekend ever. They teach you skill, not how to pass the test and you constantly apply what you’re learned to your riding throughout the course.
