Negative experience: I will change this once they update their number, they have a disconnected number, so how is someone going to take this company serious if they fail to update a simple task?

Negative experience: its sad, went to pass by and its closed unfortunately!!! wow its one of the greatest truck driving schools in Edmonton.

Negative experience: I enjoyed my instructor but overall the communication in this place is awful. I still haven’t heard back after months (despite attempting to follow up) about retesting.

Negative experience: I was booked in to take my Air Breaks in May, I prepaid on May 7th. Then received a call saying they would refund me because they where closing for an audit. They told me it would take 10 days for the bank to release my money back. It is now June 5th I have tried to contact them, I was told a manager would call me back, now it's been radio silence.

Fantastic experience: Had a very informative and personable instructor named Rob today. Taught us a lot, shared his own experiences, and fielded our own questions and experiences. I would highly recommend him if you're looking to upgrade Class 1A to 1A LCV certified

Negative experience: At 1st I woulda recommended this driving school to absolutely anyone that wanted to become a professional driver... now I wouldn’t recommend this school to my worst enemy. I had to go back to school & get my class 1 back so I did the E&E & I was one of the 1st 2 people in all of Alberta to do this program. The instructor that taught this class was absolutely fantastic & knew it right to the point. He was vary professional & went beyond any expectations that could be asked of one. However as class went on.. this instructor was up for a job promotion, there for one of the other senior instructor’s felt the need to cause some hardship that then caused issue’s with the completion of the course. This went on for quit some time & Alberta Commercial Transportation got involved.. meanwhile this was happening not only did the senior instructor not give a darn who he was effecting or the hardship he was causing.. as well it seemed like the new owner didn’t & till this vary day dosent care a bit. However by this person’s actions I lost out on the job that I was wanting to get back into.. so that costed me $75,000.00 more a year. The manager from the get while this was all happening.. ( was absolutely acting on my side, saying this is gonna get resolved & this & that.. for weeks & weeks... & weeks.. & stated from the get go I would get refunded my monies back minimum & that was confident that the person that caused this wouldn’t have a job & be before commercial transport to have the teaching license pulled & this & that.. I received texts messages every other day ... saying this was gonna be dealt with & I would be given a meeting date to receive my monies ) Nothing yet has come of anything.. Prior to all this I recommended this place to 4 of my vary good friends, & a couple of them been getting the run around too!! I would not recommend this place at all no more

Fantastic experience: EXCELLENT VALUE! I recently took 2 hours of Class 3 refresher. I hadn't driven a truck in years. The whole experience was pleasant, informative, and very professional. I was enrolled quickly on very short notice and was fully accommodated by the instructor Brian. He listened to what my wants were and delivered with value and sincerity. Brian gave me a refresher crash-course in Pre-Trip check, Air Brakes, and upshifting/downshifting a manual transmission. He was professional, knowledgeable, patient and non-judgmental. He gently reinforced the basics while giving me free rein to learn at my pace. When my 2 hours were done he gave me printed info to take with me and then introduced me to another very knowledgeable instructor Don to answer my questions about future training. Thanks again Brian, you made my day! Highly recommended! .

Fantastic experience: I did my class 1 MELT program here at Capilano Truck Driver Training Institute and i must say it is the best experience of my life. I have learnt everything i need to be a great operator in general. Safety is very much at the core of their operations. I must say, their reputation really proceeds them. Special thanks to Gary, Scott, John and Don who i trained with at different stages of my course. The admin guys are also great and really good at what they do(Tasha, Josie and Nadeera). In short Guys, if you do your training course at Capilano, i bet its worth every of your penny and you would feel at home from your first day.

Negative experience: The course was supposed to take 8 weeks instead because unorganized took 16. A few good instructors. Don't waste your money they waste time. It's gong show.

Fantastic experience: Went through doing framers extention program they were great and the one teacher I had throughout my whole experience was Gary. Very great teacher on every subject. Makes you think about key things needed through out the course. Tasha was also incredibly helpful with booking stuff, arranging times making things work. Without these ppl helping I would have struggled to gain my class one. Everyone there is so great to deal with I really recommend this trucking school.

Negative experience: I am a class one driver with over 30 years experience I went to the school for a Valuation the driver did not know what he was doing he said I failed my pre trip inspection I am also a mechanic of heavy duty he refuses to give me a copy of the report that he sent to the company The driver was an East Indian or new Canadian he didn't even know how to do have to stuff this equipment was garbage leaking oil and nothing was clean suffer the inside of the cab . The examiner was wearing a suit and tie which I thought was inappropriate for the possit a position. They lie to you They have no I dear what they are doing for a school the equipment is 10 to 15 years old they don't take care of nothing they do not care about the students they rather fail the student to make more money They have no I dear what they are doing for a school the equipment is 10 to 15 years old they don't take care of nothing they do not care about the students they rather fail the student to make more money Then My recommendation never use a school for anything you want a good school go to go to Cameron driver education at least they treat you like a human compared to capital driving school there not from but a bunch of crooks.

Fantastic experience: Best Place for all type of Licenses. Everyone works in this driving school (the owner, driving instructor, front desk clerk, etc.) is very nice and friendly, answered all our questions and concerns with patience. Gave constructive criticism without condescension, would highly recommend to anyone, of all skill levels. You won't be disappointed!

Negative experience: Some of the worst customer service I have ever experienced. Their office is terribly unorganized with horrible manners/ethics. My experience with Capilano was absolutely terrible. They were completely dishonest and overpriced. They charged me an admin fee after I was forced to complete my training elsewhere due to their incompetence.

Fantastic experience: I came here to get my class 3 license and air brakes. The air brakes instructor, Jan Langsner, was a great teacher. Patient and answers any questions. John Pobihushchyj was my in truck trainer. He was very through and informative when going over inspections. Tascha helped big time when it came to anything else I needed. Highly recommend getting training here.

Fantastic experience: Just completed the Class 1 MELT program here, and I am really glad I chose Capilano... The instructors and staff are super friendly and knowledgeable. I would most definitely recommend Capilano Truck Driver Training and I will be coming back for any further training that I do.

Fantastic experience: Excellent instructors and staff, I went to the school while it was owned by Dale/Barb and under the new owners as well. The quality has stayed the same, at the top.The instructors and staff genuinely care about their students. Although if you are young (under 21) have zero experience and zero connections don't expect the same treatment from the Alberta Government and 99.5% of all transportation companies, even after getting your Class 1 MELT license.

Negative experience: I was sent to these guys for a Class 1 Evaluation from the hiring company, the examiner whose name starts with "G" only gave negative comments to the company and not the positive comments, so let me detail the positive comments: 1: I didn't go fast over the pot holes out of their testing yard, or going in to the yard. 2: Did the pre trip & in cab inspection accordingly. 3: While making the left turn on 92 Ave out of their testing yard I saw the guy on the bicycle as the trees were at his height, couldn't see him from far but made sure he crossed safely and then I took a turn. 4: made sure none of the vehicles or trucks ran into our truck ( 2 truck drivers were not paying attention at all as they were listening to music on their headphones. 5: Shifted gears as per the conditions on the road. there were times when I had a split second decision to make: would u down shift 3 gears or apply brakes to save your life? "G" only cared about down shifting. 6: Constantly monitored road conditions and informed the examiner. 7: Was able to back in and park the truck in a perfect spot with the wheel blocks in place along with landing gear pads etc.

Almas Perfumes Canada 6 years ago

Negative experience: I had my class 1 and driving in the oilfield for two years and came to this Capilano just to do driving evaluation for hiring company. The person ( I will add his name) who did the evaluation was unfair and aggressive !! He mentioned that I ran over curbs and hit tree ! But the fact that I ran over only one curb and didn’t hit a “ tree “ as he mentioned to the hiring company in the evaluation!!!, it was the bumper touched the tree twigs while backing up in the yard. He only mentioned the negative points! While I am driving and came through very confusing lanes and I did it right ,he admitted that during his all evaluations / trainings that I am the only driver who came to the right lane with no mistake. Also I didn’t realize that under hood is included in the evaluation so I missed, he didn’t even ask me if I know how to do it ? He just kept quit and dealt with it as it is class 1 actual road test and not “ driving evaluation for hiring! Is this fair?!!

Capilano Truck Driver Training Institute
Capilano Truck Driver Training Institute

Evaluation means "Evaluate the driver's knowledge and skill." To protect the carrier's profile and accident rate, the driver should be able to inspect the truck for defects and operational matters. The driver should be able to work in an efficient manner, including checking the air system for faults. The driver should be able to drive in a safe, legal and efficient manner to anticipate possible dilemma's.

Fantastic experience: I came to Capilano Truck Driver Training Institute with a completely low level of confidence after being treated horribly at two other driving schools. I didn't believe I could get my class 1 until I met the instructors of Capilano. I had my assessment and the instructor was so positive and encouraging even when we talked about where I needed a bit of work. Then I met John who was my instructor for the rest of my class 1 hours. John was very professional, very kind and taught me so much. I felt as though I could do this. He not only helped me with my weak areas but he gave me tips on how to mentally prepare for my driving test. The day of my test, the other instructors were all so positive and everyone telling me "you got this"....I wan't so sure but 1.5 hours later, the examination indicated that my drive was amazing, my pre-trip and air brakes impressive and my back up was the best he had seen that week. Thank you Capilano Driving School and all the instructors for getting me through this and giving me the confidence that I could do it. I will be coming back for LCV training and some other courses for sure. I don't even recommending going somewhere else, Just try Capilano.

Fantastic experience: I choose Capilano truck drinking school because my dad had worked there many years ago and I remember him talking about how he liked the company. So when the time came for me to get my Class 1 I shopped around but in the end choose Capilano because they had the programs I wanted and the instruction time I wanted. Was surprised to find the course was only 2 weeks at the the program I choose (intermediate level). Lessons in truck were 2 hours everyday and all the instructors including the owner were all fantastic and a pleasure to learn from the few that taught me. Everyone was very friendly and very informative. I had never driven a standard in my life but I feel much more comfortable in one now. It was a bit overwhelming at first learning everything and I had a pretty stressful couple of days just because I felt overwhelmed. But each day I went in the intructors worked with me and I gained the confidence I needed to pass my driving test with flying colors. My airbrakes course was taught by the owner of the company and he was great. I was told airbrakes would be a long boring course but Dale made it interesting, he showed us every step several times and we even got to see all the parts broken down and work with them ourselves. This group of guys are all very patient and they make learning fun no matter the class of license you are taking or upgrading too. I highly recommend Capilano Truck Driver Training, for anyone who wants to learn to drive the big rigs and have fun doing it.

Fantastic experience: I have completed my class 1 and PDIC through Capilano and I have enjoyed my experience. The instructors are knowledgeable and experienced in their fields and always found answers to my questions. My instructor was John p for my PDIC. He has been a professional driver for a long time, and has alot of stories to share. The only downfall is the lovely trains that likes to show up and park on 50th Street at the most inconvenient times.

Teja Samardzija 7 years ago

Fantastic experience: I did my air brakes yesterday, and these guys are really great. My class instructor was John P he made it fun, and not boring. Then I was tested by Jeff H, another great instructor. They really really know their stuff, I highly recommend coming here for the course. I just did my class 3 this past week here, again I passed. I had John P as my instructor again, and he really helped me get the training, and knowledge to succeed. I'm now thinking about doing my class 1 here as well. I absolutely love this school.

Fantastic experience: Great service from the entire team here! From the very first inquiry right through to the final road test. They will ensure you have all the tools you need to be successful. My instructor John is an excellent coach and clearly demonstrated the importance of safety and driver attitude among many other great tips! He is a valuable asset to this School, and I'm very grateful to have had the opportunity to gain some of their knowledge. I also found the hands on portion and overall approach to be very useful and will be for years to come. If you're already here reading this, then your next step should be to give them a call and get on the road to Success! Invest in yourself and take your skills to new heights!

Fantastic experience: Fantastic experience. Everyone was really friendly and willing to help. My instructor was Bill. He was calm and explained things very clearly. It was my first time driving a tractor and trailer, but Bill taught things very well and built confidence in me so i was calm and ready for the road. I have no regrets, and would highly recommend Capilano to anyone interested in learning class 1. Big thanks to Bill, and all the staff at Capilano. I really appreciate all the help. Kyle w

Fantastic experience: Capilano training is the best in town! They have the best team in the industry,it is the best place to go to get your class 1.Capilano is the number one.A big thanks to my instructor Keith and Ricky.

Robert Cross 10 years ago

Negative experience: Regret going here. I shopped around and Capilano seemed the best price for class 1 training, but you end up wasting so much time it costs more than it seems. For example, to train parking a trailer, they have all the students train in the same spot so you end up waiting in line for at least half an hour for that. When it's costing you $100/hr. for the training, waiting in line half an hour every time isn't worth it. They waste too much time on the pre-trip inspection training too. In a 2 hour training session, they spend close to an hour on that. My last training session they rated me 2/5 on that, as though I was completely unprepared for a road test, but in the road test I got 100% on the pre-trip. They just make you feel like you're unprepared for the road test so you pay for more hours of training than you really need to. Do the math, 1 hour spent on pre-trip and half an hour waiting in line means you only get to spend 1/4 of a 2 hour training session actually training on driving the trucks. People there are nice and friendly though.

Fantastic experience: The class was great Jeffrey Hooper was a great instructor he made made the class ejoyable and any question you had he could would give a great answer.

Chris Evil 10 years ago

Fantastic experience: When seeking truck training in Edmonton and area - I checked out Cameron and Capilano. I chose to go with Capilano and I'm very happy I did. Taking a class one is going to run you more or less 3000 bucks, so you should get to know your instructors before putting any money down if possible. Regardless, every single instructor at capilano is great. I had the opportunity to speak with most of them, requesting different instructors, since everyone has a different opinion and you can learn a lot from these guys. They genuinely wish you to succeed in obtaining your class one, but more than that, they wish for you to be safe, and avoid the common dangers that most trucking schools will only gloss over. Again, if you have no or very little experience with a tractor and trailer, you will want to get more hours under your belt. Better to have more, and need less, than have less and need more - the school is popular and gets booked up quickly!
