Young Drivers of Canada offers comprehensive driving education aimed at equipping students with essential driving skills and knowledge for safe driving habits.
Throughout their existence, they have received positive feedback for their professional instructors, particularly mentioning staff like Peter Huynh, Troy Sherban, and Bill who were highlighted as patient, supportive, and helpful in preparing students for their driving tests.
Many users appreciate the Collision-Free course they provide, which teaches valuable defensive driving techniques. Several students have succeeded in passing their driving tests on the first attempt, crediting their instructors' effective teaching methods and experience.
However, some customers have expressed dissatisfaction regarding customer service, long wait times for scheduling lessons, and challenges with booking in-car sessions. A few reviews indicate a lack of communication and organization in their processes.
Despite mixed feedback, many users recommend Young Drivers of Canada for those eager to build strong foundational driving skills.
Young Drivers of Canada: Reviews
Negative experience: Do not go with Young Drivers of Canada. Registered my daughter with them and have already spent over $5000 in lessons and coarses. After completing and having passed her driving test, Young Drivers of Canada only issued a YD (Young Drivers) certificate and not an MTO (Ministry of Transportation). Apparently, not all insurance companies accept a YD certificate for a rate reduction. Called in to speak with their customer service department and was told there was nothing they could do as my daughter had to complete the coarse within the MTO required guidelines. We were never told this we we registered. Instead, Young Drivers kept charging us for extra on-road lessons but never explained this. To make matters worse, the customer service represented we spoke to suggested we now shop aground to other driving school companies to re-do the test...what a joke! After writing a review, the CFO (Maria) of Young Drivers called and tried to iron things out...she ensured personally to handle the matter. This was Nov 1, 2024 and to date nothing has been resolved. In fact, left her messages and she doesn't even return my calls. Stay away from Young Drivers Of Canada as there are far better companies out there.
Fantastic experience: I’ve had excellent service from all the YD staff I’ve been in contact with- if you’re taking your lessons anywhere in the downtown/east side Toronto area, try and ask for Peter Huynh. It’s only because of him I passed my road test on the first try!
Fantastic experience: Overall good experience with the CollisionFree course. Lots of good practical tips you can use everyday
Negative experience: Truely the worst driving lesson program possible. If I could give Young Drivers 0 stars, I would. Slow phone service, poor lessons, bad instructors, busy, slow to book tests. If there is any other driving company you can use to start driving, I would strongly recommend it. Young Drivers is not worth the high cost.

Fantastic experience: The training in Woodbridge was amazing! Troy really helped me perfect my driving skills. Highly recommend!
Fantastic experience: Peter was incredibly helpful in preparing me for my driving test. I’m grateful to Young Drivers of Canada in Woodbridge for their excellent training.
Fantastic experience: The in-class lessons at Young Drivers in Woodbridge were easy to follow, and the in-car sessions with Troy were invaluable.
Fantastic experience: Nice to learn on a small car with someone there
Fantastic experience: Thanks to Young Drivers in Woodbridge and Peter, I now feel confident driving on my own. I highly recommend this school.
Fantastic experience: Enrolling in Young Drivers was a great decision. My instructor, David, was friendly, patient, and very knowledgeable. They made everything easy to understand and really helped build my confidence.
Fantastic experience: I had a great time learning with Young Drivers. The instructor was patient and dealt with my nerves in a supportive way. I felt calm while practicing my skills!
Negative experience: My instructor taught good tips but was very negative and never gave compliments. He expected me to be a fully experienced driver during the lessons even though I was a very new driver

Fantastic experience: Great course! Passed my G2 on my first attempt.
Fantastic experience: Young Drivers helped prepare me for success ! During the whole process it was very professional, and easy to absorb the content.I would recommend this program to any young drivers who are eager to get on the road and, learn the best way to be prepared for time on the road. Also a big shout out to Norman the driving instructor, he was unbelievable and was a pleasure to drive with him.
Negative experience: It was a while back (across covid) when I took the in-car driving lessons at the Rosedale location with one of the instructors from young drivers. And this is the review for those lessons. Can't speak for the pedagogy of the school in general, but for students who don't have access to cars at home, the teaching system of my instructor clearly is not designed to prep them for the driving exam within the 10 hours in-vehicle course. Most of the time are spent on in-car lectures and driving to the location, so I ended up having less than half of the allocated time to practice driving with my instructor. It is almost as if my instructor expected that I can miraculously drive better simply through lectures, or better, if I already know how to drive before coming to class. I mentioned to him that I am a little slow on learning to drive and thanked him for his patience. Later at some point during the class I made a mistake, and you know what he said? "You mentioned you are slow at learning. I think you are right" Excuse me!? How is that insult suppose to make me a better driver? Since his class does not allow me to have enough in-car practice, and I don't have access to vehicles at home. I registered some practice sessions with another instructor from another school. My mistake was letting him know about that, because he ended up spending half of that "lecture" time dissing about other driving schools. I am sure my instructor's system would be very valuable to drivers who are capable drivers and only need some refinements. Or it's probably gonna work well if you are able to practice driving with your family in-between lessons. But for new drivers like myself who has no one to practice with? I would not recommend learning from young driver at all. Very poor experience and I regretted choosing this driving school

Fantastic experience: Posting this for my son - The Young Drivers program was an amazing boost for his personal confidence as well me as a parent. Right down to the hours leading up to his G2 test, with the mock test. Great overall experience. Thank you YDC.
Fantastic experience: Tenzin Nyendak was an excellent instructor, simply the best. He was patient and kind and made everything really clear. Also Sarah McLeod at the YD office was extremely helpful. A great experience!
Negative experience: This is not a legitimate business. There is a national advertising platform which receives payments, but no goods or services are provided. It is virtually impossible for students to book lessons via telephone with 1 hour wait times or longer and this is after they have taken the money. All appointments must be made through the national office by telephone with no direct contact with the "local" instructor. Seems crazy that you need to give one star to get review posted !

Fantastic experience: I have been there couple of times. In terms of service they are very nice and professional
Thank you.
Negative experience: Almost a year later after paying fee, I still dont have appointments for all my in car lesson. Instructor promised to get back with time slots and it’s been 6 months since my last lesson. The first instructor was incredibly awful and borderline harassing me on my first lesson. He got so impatient that he was tapping repeatedly on my body saying “you need to listen!!!” And it was my first time behind a wheel and I told him that right from the first minute. Second instructor promised to get back with time slots for next appointment and never did. It’s been more than 6 months. Called multiple times and asked to speak to a supervisor and got “my manager will call back”. Never received a call back or a voice mail. Almost $2000 is a hefty price for such a horrible experience. Edit: so shortly after I posted my review, the instructor sent me an email to remind me of lessons I still have lol so yeah instructor did have my email and despite promise to get back to me with his availability multiple times, he never did since maybe October 2022. And all of sudden he remembers me after 6-7 months? No coincidence! Just because I gave a review. Here’s the fun part. I reached out again and it went MIA. Although he sent me an email, he advised me to book with “the office”. I do remember after 3 lessons, office has nothing to do with booking, it is between student and instructor. What a mediocre service and instructor.

Fantastic experience: I am posting as a parent of a student to say how incredible her instructor Mark Halliday (Mississauga) has been. He is kind, supportive and a great instructor. Also, the staff in the office have been outstanding in setting up lessons to fit the very limited availability in our daughter's schedule. Thank you YDC!
Thank you so much for your kind words, Joannah. We're glad you had a great experience.
Negative experience: Driving instructor was really rude and intentionally fail me so I have to schedule extra lessons. (How do I know it’s intentional? My instructor from other driving school told me I’m ready for exam). They charge me $95 extra for missing the lesson though I already paid for the lesson. Its so much more expensive than other driving school. Service is bad too. Do not recommend. I would give 0 star if that’s an option. Any other driving school is better than this!

Negative experience: Prior to signing up with Young Drivers of Canada my Sister's Husband gave me some lessons and I was so enthused about learning to drive. The Young Drivers in-class sessions were OK but they didn't prepare me for the in-car sessions with my instructor who had major issues. When he wasn't flirting with the female student I was paired with he would complain to me about how much he hated his job. Also going on about having to work holidays and weekends. The guy was really scary and abusive and not the kind of person suited to be an instructor. After about 3 sessions when I called him to explain that I decided to stop my lessons he got really angry. I ended up not completing the balance of in-car training when I quit from Young Drivers of Canada -no refund obtained. I was so pumped to be a driver but my experience with Young Drivers was so traumatic that I never could get the courage to try again with another driving school.

Fantastic experience: I have had a great experience with Young Drivers Toronto. My driving instructor was Norman, he was extremely patient and I have learned some valuable lessons from him! Their online course also has some quality content that you may not be able to get from other driving schools in the province or city, especially concerning being proactive to unanticipated problems on the road. Def recommend this driving school!
Thank you.
Fantastic experience: Highly recommended if you want to build a solid lifelong foundation for defensive driving. In their in-class lessons (and online ones), they teach you their “Collision-Free” approach, which is a set of defensive driving habits designed to keep you out of collisions throughout your driving career. Even though at times the online course seemed tedious, overall I’m very happy with the care and effort that was put into it and the quality of the content. Personally, I think I’ll keep coming back to my YD workbook far into the future, and may also enroll in advanced driving lessons with YD. My in-car instructor Dariush is a wonderful teacher. He genuinely cares about imparting good driving habits to his students and does so with rigour and patience. Overall, highly recommended!
Thank you.
Positive experience: The in car with my instructor was amazing, best experience to learn how to drive but the online was just to much and packed way to much into it that I feel like that didn’t need to be put in. Some of it was common sense that really didn’t need to have an hour lesson explaining about it. But I would highly recommend their instructor for learning to drive
Fantastic experience: I had an amazing experience with Young Drivers! My instructor John was patient and helpful, and he was great company during our car rides. I passed the road test with ease because of his great teaching.
Fantastic experience: My in-class lessons with David were very informative and useful, for example learning M.E.L.T., when beginning to understand driving. I took the original online course which had some glitches but was also very informative. However, my driving instructor, Peter Huynh, really made this learning experience fantastic. He taught me so many important things on the road, for example discussing “closing the zipper” when in highly dense traffic on highways, as well as emphasizing the importance of making obvious shoulder checks and left, centre, right checks when turning and at intersections. He also gives fantastic advice considering the G2 Road Test, telling you exactly what you’ll expect from it and giving recommendations of where to practice, so there are no surprises. He’s also just a great guy, and funny all around. I highly, HIGHLY recommend requesting Peter Huynh for your driving instructor here at Young Drivers. I’ve learned so many crucial driving sub-habits from him and passed my G2 Road Test on the first try.
Negative experience: You can find a better driving school for a cheaper price. I did driving school with this company around 2021 and I had a horrible experience. The first appointment that was made with an instructor, I went all the way to the meeting location just for the instructor to never show up. I had to call and leave several messages as they never picked up. I ended up being told it was cancelled last minute and received no warning email or notice. Then I got Ian as a driving instructor who turned driving into some type of math equation. Telling me to turn at specific angles, or turning the wheel exactly 1 and a quarter. He allowed me to build ZERO driving instincts . After these lessons I got really bad anxiety when driving because I hadn’t learned how to drive, I had only memorized the numbers and angles he told me of. This anxiety took me over a year to get comfortable with driving. So save yourself the trouble. Best advice if you already payed (because refunds with this place are near impossible) = do the lessons to collect the insurance and have someone else teach you to drive.
Fantastic experience: Passed my g2 test first try with no problem, Tobi was my instructor and was fantastic!
Negative experience: horrible horrible HORRIBLE virtual course. it is truly a pain learning to drive right now :(
Negative experience: I had a very bad experience with this school. I registered in April and before registering the agent confirmed with me that I will be able to get all my in car lessons in July. After registering and paying the fees, I called to book my in car lesson and waited 3 hours on hold waiting for an agent, I was told that there is no available instructors till August 31st, I didn't complain about it as I know that they might have a problem with the Covid backlog. 4 days ago, I read many online reviews that after taking 3 lessons, the instructors are not booking lessons for over 2 months. I called last Friday, waited over 2 hours on hold, and made my schedule completely flexible for driving lessons even accepting to loose work hours, the agent told me that they won't be able to complete in car lessons till end of September, then I have to call back again and wait on hold for probably another 2 hours to book the road test package which will definitely be after couple months. I explained to her that I've already ordered a car and it will arrive by end of October, and asked her to at least reserve instructor hours for me in October considering that this was the promise from the beginning, she said they cannot do that and confirmed with me twice that in this case they will fully refund my package because they are not able to deliver their services. I sent an email to request a refund and explained everything. The school replied that they will cut 35% (20% administration fees and 15% online lessons fees)because I'm asking for a refund which is 671.95$ refund deduction, I sent many emails explaining that the reason for a refund request is not that I changed my mind, the reason for a refund request is that they are not able to deliver their services as promised. They still refused to refund me. Unfortunately, the only definition for this is that this school is a real SCAM now. This probably wasn't the case couple years ago, but now they are nothing but a real SCAM.
Negative experience: I called right at 9am and still caller #10?? It doesn't make any sense.
Fantastic experience: I was in Young Drivers Belleville and the team there was great, simply taught me how to drive and I passed the G2 test satisfied. Thank you to my instructor Gord.
Negative experience: Since covid, the has been a complete lack of effort and accountability on the part of whomever books the schedule. I had 3 lessons cancelled on me first, and I just spent 2:30 on hold in various lines trying to figure out where I'm doing my g2 test or whether it's even happening. If they book the road test for me then why should I have to bend over backwards to deal with something which I've paid young drivers to do for me.
Negative experience: This place is shut down due to covid!
Positive experience: Like all driving schools, a deduction to your insurance and only a wait time of 8 months to take your g2 after completing g1 instead of 12 is granted by Young drivers, however I do not agree with there prices as you are only paying them to waste your time plus a $50 fee if you cancel your appointment on top of the 1,200 it cost to sign up. The instructors are nice but not worth wasting you time money and effort I would recommend other driver schools but it did give me the full driving experience about 6 months after completing online segment which takes too long.
Fantastic experience: I had an amazing experience with Young Drivers. I appreciate the sub habits, and came out with more knowledge about the road. I now tell my parents to “ground view” or “regain their stagger”, because it’s second nature now! The instructors are very kind and patient as well, which is needed for first time drivers. 10/10 recommend!
Fantastic experience: My experience here was fantastic! My instructor, Bill, was exceptional and helped me gain confidence while teaching me all the proper techniques and maneuvers necessary for being a great driver.
Negative experience: In-class lessons were fine, but my G2 in-car experience was not good at all. Was not a fan of the teaching style. The whole hour of the first class was spent sitting in an unmoving car, learning about what the dashboard buttons and dials do. Going into lesson 2 or 3 with pretty much zero road experience, went straight out onto a busy road and was scolded for not steering properly. How is a student with no driving experience expected to know how to steer well on the first try, especially in downtown traffic? On subsequent lessons, maneuvers were only reviewed once or twice with barely any repetition. My G2 prep package included a highway lesson, but in my opinion is a money-grab and unnecessary for this stage. The in-car schedule/program is too rigid and doesn't adapt well to individual needs. I would dread going to each lesson and felt stuck, as I had paid a big sum of money already. It made me strongly dislike driving in general. COVID happening was a relief for me, because it meant I didn't have to see my instructor anymore! In the end I decided to cancel my lessons with them and go elsewhere, the stress wasn't worth it. I only got a partial refund on my remaining lessons and assessment (my request was initially rejected due to their one-year refund policy, so I called them to argue that COVID obviously played a part in the delay, HELLO?!?!). Look at other options first before coming here. Don't let the big name and price tag fool you. Today I passed my G2 test, with no thanks to YD! I can thank a different driving school for that!
Fantastic experience: My driving instructor Troy made me feel very comfortable in the car while I was driving. He was very patient and I never felt Discouraged when making mistakes. I highly recommend him to anyone who is going to need driving instructions.
Fantastic experience: i couldn’t have asked for a better driving instructor in carrie she is one of the kindest people i’ve ever met with her bubbly personality. Not only is she a great person she’s an amazing instructor, very calming and easygoing experience. 5 stars would be an understatement on my experience with carrie
Fantastic experience: My instructor, Bill K, was incredible. In the 3 lessons I got, he taught me everything I needed to know, and helped me through the checklist for readiness for my drive test. Absolutely incredible, highly recommend.
Fantastic experience: My experience with Young Drivers has been amazing. I was so lucky to have Troy Sherban as my instructor. He was extremely patient, a great observer, and an amazing teacher. He was able to see what I didn’t even know I needed to focus on. He truly prepared me to be a safe driver and helped remove any fear I had toward driving. Thank you for the amazing experience!
Fantastic experience: I really appreciated the instructor Rod who guided me through the technical skills of driving so that I successfully passed my road test on the first try. Even though my road test was delayed signicifantly due to covid, I felt lucky to have YD doing the rescheduling for me so I didn't have to struggle with the Drive Test system on my own. Support was terrific and much appreciated!
Fantastic experience: I signed up with Young Drivers of Canada to take a refresher driving course. My instructor Derek was excellent. Very personable, professional and a good communicator. He is very patient and provided useful tips and cues for city driving, highway driving and parking. Due to COVID they currently do not pick up from your home so you will need to meet them at a central location where they can sanitize the vehicle in between students. My pickup location was the passenger pickup at York Mills subway station behind the shell gas station. I would definitely recommend them for beginners or those looking to refresh their driving skills.
Fantastic experience: My driving instructor really helped me prepare for the reality of driving through a defensive driving course
Negative experience: Extremely difficult to get in car lessons booked in a timely fashion. There is no advantage in using YD to shorten the process to 8 months. Every time one calls customer service there is a minimum 20 minute wait on hold. Save your money and book elsewhere for lessons.
Fantastic experience: This is the only driving school that answers the phone they are number one
Fantastic experience: Aalim is the best instructor.
Fantastic experience: Loved taking this driving course. I let my license expire so I had to retake my exam and decided to go to young drivers. They taught me so many things that my driving class in my teens did not teach me that was invaluable. I am a much more confident driver now because of them.
Negative experience: I was disappointed with Young Drivers and would not recommend taking their classes. My instructor (his name was Lane) was terrible and unsupportive during the teaching process and practical driving portion. He refused to pick me up at my home downtown as all instructors normally do (i.e. as Young Drivers arranges for students) and made me come up to Summerhill to do my driving lessons. The roads were unfamiliar and he was often rude while he was teaching. In one instance he didn’t show up for a lesson and he claims it was due to traffic from a baseball game but he didn’t even have the decency to call and I waited for over an hour. I had taken the train in from out of town to attend this lesson and Young Drivers refused to apologize or refund me for this session. As a student, the extra expense of having to commute to Summer Hill and also the train ticket from the missed course was a huge burden. For the exorbitant fee to take their courses, I hoped for better customer service and teachers from YD.
Fantastic experience: Very pleased, our son really liked Larry, Jonathan was a huge help with scheduling & rescheduling and the hands-on session on the day-of with attendance at the driving centre really sealed the deal.
Fantastic experience: Excellent service and training. In car instructor polite, knowledgeable and clearly explained what was required. Offered many in car experiences.
Negative experience: Not an office that you can sign up at.
Fantastic experience: Hi everyone, I am a classroom and in-car instructor. I hope you make the decision to drive collision-free the rest of your life. If thats your goal, then Young Drivers will be the right choice for you. I hope to see you soon. Thanks, Chris
