Fantastic experience: Leroy is a friendly and encouraging guy who makes learning to drive feel way easier than you can imagine. When you’re in the driver’s seat, you’re always in total control, no kind of intervention from the teacher unless ABSOLUTELY needed. He allows you to make some mistakes on the road, providing corrective direction right after, allowing clear understanding of little things that can mess up your drive. Overall, a wonderful teacher who eases you into the fundamentals of driving with clear instruction, while urging you just a little outside of your comfort zone all at the same time.

Fantastic experience: Wonderful driving classes to have. Leroy provides very clear driving instructions along with good advice. He also provides practice driving tests to prepare students for the actual test. Each route during the test is often different from the other, good for practicing thinking on the road. After the mock test, he’ll provide notes on what the student did well and what can improve. I found this helped me improve my driving skills a lot over the weeks. Leroy is also a very patient and good-natured teacher. Overall, if you are looking for effective driving lessons, I would highly recommend registering for New Horizons’ driving classes.

Fantastic experience: I can't recommend booking driving lessons with New Horizons Driving School / Leroy enough! Leroy was a saint, he was so patient and taught everything super clearly. I used to have such bad anxiety when it came to even the thought of driving, but after 6 lessons with Leroy I feel so much more confident on the road. He teaches everything at a perfect rate so you have time to learn new skills before moving on to the next one. His mock road tests are incredible as well and he has great insight in how to prepare for the real test. I've had lessons with other instructors at other driving schools in the past and none of them come close to how great Leroy was!! Finding New Horizons Driving School was a blessing. 110% recommend!!

Fantastic experience: Leroy is awesome & very effective driving instructor with calm and flexible approach to fit learning that works for you. He really cares about your learning and safe driving. Leroy also understands ICBC tests in great detail and can provide clear pointers for that. It's still up to you to soak that in and be ready for the test. I have taken 3 lessons with Leroy to get ready for my N driving test. I had some driving practice prior to my lessons with Leroy, so with Leroy we concentrated on good driving practices and what the test be like. We started from the basics still, so that all subsequent learning has good foundation and went from there. For new manoeuvres, Leroy has great way of showing/explaining them prior to first attempt and that was very helpful. I also felt safe practicing new things with Leroy being present in the car. Definitely recommend !

Fantastic experience: I just completed my driver lessons with Leroy. He's so professional and patient. Beside covering all driving knowledge, he gave me so many driving tips and tips to pass the ICBC road test. I heard from my friend that he was an ICBC road test examiner for more than ten years, so he know exactly how the examiner score us ( or deduct our scores). At the end of each class, he gives feedback and comment so that I can tell my family to help watch me when I practice driving. The car is new and clean. I feel so much confident after taking lessons with him, unlike practicing with my dad lol The location is convenient. I can take skytrain to him. He drop me off at the same skytrain station once finish the class. You should book early since his lesson schedule is fully booked so fast. Highly recommend.

Fantastic experience: We booked a class 5 road test on short notice for transferring a foreign license. Worked with 4 different driving instructors over 5 days as a refresher (hadn’t driven in many many months). We only had one two-hour lesson with Leroy, but he was the best of the bunch.

I am so thankful to have crossed paths with New Horizons/ Leroy. His seemingly endless plethora of knowledge and patience made all the difference. Fantastic experience: I greatly enjoyed my experience with New Horizons - each lesson was informative, and varied to help provide the best possible experience where you can be exposed to different scenarios you would face as a driver. All my questions were answered throughout the process, and after the 5 lesson course I felt very confident I could pass my road test! I also appreciated greatly being given feedback at the end of each lesson via a scoring metric system that allowed me to see what I still had to improve on, as well as what I was actually doing very well! Fantastic experience: It was my first time driving and Leroy was extremely helpful, professional, and patient with me. He went step-by-step and had memorable techniques for all the parking maneuvers so that it was incredibly easy to do them on my own. It also helped that he was previously an ICBC examiner, therefore, he knew everything that I should look out for. When he thought I was ready, we did a simulated road test and I could trust that I was getting an experience that was as close as possible to the real road test. I also really appreciated Leroy's responsiveness since most of the other local driving schools don't seem to have the greatest communication. Looking forward to booking with New Horizons again in the future to prep for my class 5 test.

Fantastic experience: The TL;DR version of this review: If you get the chance to book with Leroy, do not hesitate to do so. He is hands down the best driving instructor (this is not hyperbole). I recently needed to retake my class 5 because it's been expired for over 6 years. So I booked a few sessions with different instructors from different places to get some driving practice before my road test. Leroy was 1 of the 3 that I booked and he is in a league of his own. I booked a road test prep and assessment with Leroy for 2 hours. I did a simulated road test on the PoCo route. I went on the highway after finishing up the PoCo route (side note, from my understanding the actual PoCo road test doesn't have a highway portion on the road test, but because I was doing my road test in Abbotsford we went on it). Afterwards, I did some driving in the Coquitlam/PoCo area and Leroy tested some of my general driving knowledge before finishing up. It was very well tailored to my specific situation and helped me quickly regain all of my driving "muscle memory" after having not driven for over 6 years. Before any of my driving sessions with the 3 instructors, I reviewed the "Tuning Up For Drivers" manual to make sure my knowledge was still up-to-date. During my review, I came up with some questions to ask the instructors to make sure my understanding was correct. Most of the questions were fairly straightforward, but I had a question about one of the bullet points in the parking uphill section of the manual. Leroy was the only one who even knew what I was talking about. One of the other instructors thought I was mistaken and told me to send him a screenshot of the manual (I sent him a link to the manual with the page number, but never got a response). The other instructor just kept answering my question with the question he thought I was asking (he wasn't actually listening to my question and kept talking over me when I tried to correct his understanding of my question). This is what really sets Leroy apart and why he's in a league of his own. He's actually competent at his job. He knows the materials and he knows how to communicate with others to help them understand it too. He took the time to actually listen to my questions and respond to what I was actually asking. He also provided tips about the actual road test and explained how it's marked. And he was the only one who was punctual and made it to our appointment on time. Leroy was professional, knowledgeable, and humble. His knowledge as a previous ICBC driving examiner really shows. Take it from someone who has multiple years of driving experience and has had multiple driving instructors to compare, Leroy should be your only consideration if you need a driving instructor.

Fantastic experience: Leroy's way of teaching is very straight forward but effective. He communicates clearly and professionally. He is friendly and easy going, which makes the drive less anxiety provoking. He is also very organized and prepared for the day. Other than these, there were two things that stood out to me that I never seen other instructors do: mock driving exam, and written progress note! I thought that was really helpful as well as impressive. It just shows his professionalism and love for the job and his students!
