Fantastic experience: My son is a brand new G2 driver thanks to Dean. He was kind and patient and made him feel very comfortable on the road. He is an expert in this field and teaches all aspects of driving. Thank you Dean !!!!!

Negative experience: HORRIBLE! AVOID AT ALL COSTS! Dean will deliberately make you lose your confidence in your driving skills so that you book more lessons with him.

Fantastic experience: I started with Dean in 2023 for my G1 to G2. He is adaptive and patient instructor, he worked with me to overcome my anxiety with driving and helped me learn everything from basics to highway driving. My only complaint is that it can be sometimes hard to book in with him. Otherwise I would highly recommend, he’s a great person who really cares about safety and will not compromise only good training.

Negative experience: I went this school for my son reading all the wonderful reviews in 2022. And Omer was really nice when we enrolled. We signed up for 20 lessons incline car test and theory course. Full payment upfront My son took some time to finish the theory lessons as he had heavy course load. Some how the in car lessons were linked to theory completion even though it’s actually an optional course. Every time we tried to schedule in car lessons we didn’t get a response and when we did it is hard to find times. Then classes get shortened at last minute. Dean driving knowledge is great but it doesn’t build confidence in students. We ultimately ended up scheduling our own car test as even that Omer kept saying my son is not ready. We actually taught him and he does fine. This review is to help others as I got mislead by other reviews. Wondering if they were even real reviews now. I have everything in writing so I will complain to MTO as well. If you are signing up DO NOT PAY upfront. We lost money time and peace trying to coordinate with Omer . Not worth it Also I’m just reading the other negative reviews and how dean trashes their driving skills for anyone who is complaining may be that’s why people are scared to post. It’s always the students fault never theirs! I’ve been directed to ministry of consumer affairs and will be filing an official complaint. Don’t care about refunds just need people to know and not get sucked in by just positive reviews as I did. Go with personal reviews from someone you know.

Negative experience: Dean knows his stuff and is a good driver but unfortunately Dean practices "negging" - he will try to ruin your self confidence when driving so that you pay for more lessons with his school. Made the mistake of paying Dean for 10 lessons in advance and he scammed me out of my last lesson about a week or two before the driving test he scheduled for me. Claimed I was "dangerous" and so no I couldn't use the car after all. Funny because he never said that about my driving before. When we got caught in a bad rainstorm with extremely low visibility, if you were truly concerned we could have pulled over but I continued to drive to pick up your next student. No concern about my driving at all. I also didn't get a refund for that last lesson. Instead of worrying about the $40 refund Dean desperately needed to keep, I drove my Dad around for a week, practiced parking and then passed my G2 on the first try with a near perfect mark. Wow, amazing considering Dean's claim that I was a "dangerous" driver. I then passed my G also on the first try. My parents would consistently ask why I kept taking lessons with him when I was driving just fine and ready to do the test. I was already an adult when I took lessons with Dean... I had previously learned as a teen and drove on and off over the years and wanted to change that. Driving with Dean was awful and demotivating. I now tell everyone who asks about this school to stay away and have connected with a few others who have had the same experiences with Dean. Dean is NOT worth your money if you're seeking a good instructor that won't scam you and put you down. There are better instructors out there.

Fantastic experience: Dean is an amazing driving instructor. He really cares for his students and makes sure they are confident and prepared for their driving tests. He throughly prepares you using mock tests and explains your weaknesses/strengths and exactly how you can improve. The mock tests helped me A LOT and made my G2 test feel really easy. I passed my road test in one shot because of his preparation and teaching. He is also very easy to talk to and helped boost my confidence as a driver. 100% would recommend that new drivers go to Dean!!

Fantastic experience: Dean is an awesome driving school teacher. He really sets his students up for success and genuinely cares about them. His mock tests are more challenging than the real test, which allows students to be more than prepared for the actual test. He is very detail-oriented and will point out all the minor errors that parents/other teachers would not notice. He puts in a lot of hours and effort for every student to ensure that they would be 100% ready for their test. He teaches you how to be safe, cautious and most importantly, how to driving defensively. Lots of essential good driving habits were taught as well, which is something that I will carry along throughout my life. Dean is also just an easy-going person and strikes up great conversations. It is all thanks to him that I passed the G2 road test on my first try so I would highly recommend students to pick Dean as their driving instructor!

Fantastic experience: DEAN IS THE BEST DRIVING SCHOOL TEACHER!!! Dean helped me prepare for my G-test so that I could confidently pass the test. He gave me great reminders and key testing-taking techniques to ensure my passing with ease. Generally, he also helped me improve my spatial management and defensive driving on the highway to make sure that I perform my merges at the optimal moment & to the safest degree. Dean was so kind and patient when offering constructive feedback and always welcomed questions to provide clarity. Dean truly prioritizes safety and will devote his time to you becoming a safe driver. He is very detail-oriented and points out minute tendencies you may have that can grow to become bad habits and aims to overcome them. Fantastic experience: Dean's Defensive Driving School IS THE REAL DEAL!! We enrolled our 16 year old son in his online and in car (practical lessons) course and we are so very glad we did! Dean's course is very comprehensive BUT I feel what sets him and his course apart from others (like AMB, Young Drivers of Canada etc) is he actually takes the success of his students very personally and genuinely cares about the driving skills they MUST acquire to keep them safe and sound while on the road!!! This isn't a - I'll take your money and push you through course - like I mentioned above - IT'S THE REAL DEAL!! Also, I loved the detailed written feedback Dean provided me right after each practical lesson too. Try and find a school that does this!! The feedback is so valuable for parents so you know exactly what your child needs to practice on for next time. Dean definitely takes PRIDE in his business/work so if you want your child or anyone else for that matter to be as best prepared for the ruthless road then sign up for Dean's course - you will be very satisfied you did!! Fantastic experience: I just passed my G1 road test yesterday on my first attempt! I am glad I have asked Dean to be my instructor. He taught me a lot on defensive driving (e.g. how to do left turns safely, how to reverse parking safely, how to change lanes safely, how to observe the road, etc). Dean always points out your mistakes politely and patiently. If you want to pass the driving test AND drive safely, choose Dean.

Fantastic experience: Dean is an excellent instructor. He’ll guide you in the correct direction not only to clear the license test but also in the proper defensive driving technique which is what you need when you’re driving on the road on a daily basis. Since I have been driving for the past 20+ yrs outside Canada, I had to “unlearn” & “relearn” many things according to the Canadian road & driving conditions. He had the patience to repeat the instructions again & again to get things right for me & I cleared the driving test in my first attempt, all Thanks to Dean & his team. His team also helped me prepone my test date by a month by constantly checking on the MTO website about new test centers opening up & booking my appointment on the earliest available date (after making sure you’ll be able to clear the test in your first attempt!).

Passed my G2 test with ease thanks to good practice tests, constructive criticism and always finding something to improve on so I wouldn't get complacent. Fantastic experience: Dean is a great driving instructor. He knows all the rules and does everything by the book. He teaches you actual skills that you need to be a good lifelong driver, rather than just to pass the test. During the lessons he lets you take control and doesn't intervene until the last moment and never yells at you. If you're learning how to drive, I strongly recommend Dean if you're looking for an instructor who will teach you properly and rigorously. Edit: I was able to pass both my G2 and G road tests in one shot, thanks to Dean!

Negative experience: Dean has good driving skills and know all the rules, but is a terrible teacher and is unprofessional. He speaks ill of competitors, makes deceptive and erroneous statements to fetch him more business. He cancelled on me on the last minute, and did not refund the rent for the car on test day. He's a very good salesman though. Apparently he's living in a bubble where every other instructors are shady. Did 10 useless hours with him and I didnt feel confident about my driving. Did 2 hours with a different instructor on the test day, who knew what exactly to work on, and I passed the test. By the way, I've been driving in another country for 10 years.

Fantastic experience: Dean is an absolutely exceptional driving instructor. I was able to pass my full-G license roadtest on the very first try despite not driving regularly for almost 6 years AND being new to the city. He will make sure that you are not only ready to pass the road-test, but also that you become a knowledgeable, safe driver. I feel much more comfortable navigating the crazy traffic of Toronto after taking lessons with him. Dean goes well beyond teaching to the test. He really cares that you know how to drive safely. I had many habits that I didn't even realize were hindering my awareness of traffic/my surroundings. Furthermore, he taught me how to drive smoothly to maximize the longevity of my vehicle!

Fantastic experience: I used Dean late this summer to refresh my skills before my 2nd attempt at the G test. Dean was awesome! Always timely, very personable yet professional, paying close attention to all, never forgetting what he was there to do. Negative experience: I took driving lessons with Dean a few years ago and whilst he is an alright teacher, there are a lot of negatives. First of all, a NASA professor or a ship captain would probably be more humble than that. Dean takes himself way too seriously. I get it, its a driving school and teaching safe driving is key. However, there is a difference between caring about your job and being arrogant or obnoxious. I have made an honest mistake and I forgot and missed ONE lesson (out of ten) which, I have sincerely apologized for. After that, I would call Dean to reschedule and he kept dodging my calls for WEEKS and only answer if I used a different phone number. It took me forever to finish my ten lessons because of this (especially that he teaches about 2 lessons a week and if the weather is not perfect he will cancel). So he can cancel as many times as he want if there are two drops of rain but I missed once and then he started avoiding my calls to reschedule. Ridiculous! Lastly, having Dean as a teacher in a vehicle was never a pleasant time. Even if you do well, he will make you feel bad that you might fail the test and try to sell you more lessons. That's what he made me feel so, I took one extra lesson with another teacher (because Dean's lessons are expensive and unreasonably overpriced). The teacher I took an extra lesson with was honest as, he was surprised I am taking a lesson and thought I do not need it. I passed the test on my first try. Conclusion--Pros: -Dean is an OK teacher -Detailed and has a lot of knowledge about the roads and safety Cons: -Overpriced compared to other schools -Lessons take forever -Demotivating and arrogant at times Edit: Reply to Dean's response Hi Dean.  I do take driving and safety very seriously and I also only drive when its necessary. So far my driving history is clean and I never got any tickets. Also, I remember you telling me once that, I am one of your few students who tended to go under speed rather than over speed as I was being overly careful.  So, I am not sure what you mean by saying that "I have students who noticed your negative learning attitude and lack of responsibility and attention in your driving habits" since it wasn't like I'm over speeding or driving recklessly. Also, I don't remember having other students in the car while we were driving so I don't know what you're talking about unless you're flat out lying which I wouldn't put it past you since you try oversell more of your lessons by putting your students down. And I don't know how students can assess my driving skills from the theory class.  Of course driving too slowly is not good either but, thanks to you I learned to drive at the appropriate speeds according to the roads. Furthermore, I do take criticism seriously as well.  That is why I booked extra lessons with another driver.  I did that after you told me that I need extra lessons because I need to improve my driving.  However, I choose another instructor because your packages where expensive for me. More importantly, as I stated in my review, the other instructor was surprised I am taking extra lessons and thought I didn't need to and passed my test from the first time.  This shows the difference in honesty and integrity between different businesses and, how one is more readiably dispositioned to charge their customers with extra unnecessary packages. In the end, I do appreciate the help.  However, I advice that you should carry out the lessons a bit faster.  It shouldn't take 3+ months to finish driving lessons and sell overpriced and extra packages. Also, do not ignore your customers calls for days and weeks. It's extremely rude and unprofessional! Further edit: It has been about 7 years now. I still drive safely and I haven't had a single speeding ticket. And I still think Dean is on of the most truly awful people I've ever met.

Fantastic experience: Dean is probably the best choice you'd make for learning to drive. I failed the first time as the instructor I chose did not even tell me correct rules. I'd love to thank Dean, if not for him, I'd probably end up in an accident if I'd have followed what my old instructor taught me. He taught me more in just 4 hours than I'd learned in 18-20 hours from my old instructor. Totally recommended.

Fantastic experience: If you want to learn how to safely drive, develop good habits, and be prepared in many situations on the road, Dean is the man to learn from. He is clear with his instructions, patient, and encouraging. Compared to all the other franchises like "Young Drivers" and "All Star", I've heard negative reviews of their instructors either being impatient, hard to understand and, even at sometimes, rushing the driver. Dean has none of those bad qualities and I strongly believe only produces exceptional and safe drivers. If he is still teaching when I have kids, he will definitely be the first person I go to. If you are looking for a good instructor, look no further :) (Btw I was not paid to leave this review, I just strongly admire and support his teaching style)

Fantastic experience: Best driving school ever! Dean is very patient and professional in terms of teaching driving skills. The instruction is very clear and he will point out any small mistakes that may cause critical results. Only practiced for 3 hours following his instruction and got my G license. Negative experience: Dean does not communicate professionally/in a timely manner. Does not realize that other people have lives and things come up. Took over a week to refund me incomplete lessons and never had consistent answers when questions were asked. Lesson's taught are placed weeks apart; you will not get your license quick. Not respectful of customers.

Negative experience: Finished in class lessons, finished required on road lessons, it has been more than a year, no certificate has been given. Also, the driving lessons, be awaŕe, he teach on sunny day, don't expect driving lessons during wet, raining and winter. He taught once a month. Suggestion, avoid this one. If I can give 0 star, I will do so. Very bad experience.

Negative experience: I would give no stars if I could. He kept rescheduling me for times I've told him that I'm not available for and kept telling me he was sick. When I asked for a refund he took an entire month then told me it was non-refundable!! In the one in-car lesson that we actually had, he managed to completely frazzle me. He does not know how to give basic direction. I do not know how he even calls himself a teacher when he can't say -"Look to your left"- but instead says "Look over there!!!" I would definitely NOT recommend this driving school to anyone!

Fantastic experience: I am a mature student who just passed the road test to get my G2 license. I went to a different driving school several years ago, but was so anxious it was a terrible experience and put me off driving for 2 plus years. Last fall, I found Dean's school through a friend and contacted him. Due to my schedule (and nerves) I didn't drive on a regular basis and went through most of the winter taking a break from my lessons but resumed in the spring and each hour I drove with Dean just flew by. I didn't dread the lessons, I wasn't terrified of crashing and he was patient and understanding. I really don't think I would have been able to attempt my test if it wasn't for his lessons. It was my first road test and I was incredibly nervous but I talked throughout the test and kept reminding myself of Dean's instructions. Having my license will make a huge difference in my family life, in terms of being able to take my son to his hockey games/practices without taking the bus or a taxi or carpooling with other parents. I would recommend Dean to anyone who is learning how to drive and once I have many months of regular driving under my belt, I will go back to him for help to prepare for my G2 exit test. Fantastic experience: After hearing all the things about the other driving schools I decided to go here. Dean does things much better than other places, with things like small class sizes instead of giant classrooms where it`s hard to learn anything, as well as lots of in car time in different places and scenarios. Would recommend to anyone looking for a good driving course to get their G2.

Fantastic experience: Dean helped me practise for my G test. I rarely drove on highway before taking classes with him, so I was very nervous... but he put me to ease through his calm attitude and engaging conversation. He not only covered the basics for the test, but also practised harder scenarios which made the test seem easy. I passed G test in my first attempt. I definitely recommend taking classes with him.

Fantastic experience: Dean's Defensive Driving School is a fantastic school that I highly recommend to any new and upcoming drivers like myself. His in class lessons are informative and entertaining. Dean does his very best to provide the best service for all his students and gives a great learning environment. While in the car Dean informs you about mistakes and areas of improvement all while keeping a friendly and kind tone, so you do not need to worry about being too stressed with Dean. Additionally Dean makes sure that all his other teachers are good to his students and if any issues arise with a teacher, you just need to let Dean know and he will help fix the problem. Can't recommend this school enough.

I never thought of moving my instruction with any other company or organization as I am completely happy with how Dean runs his programs. I failed my G2 test a few times due to AMB's unprofessional driver instructors, after switching over to Dean I have noticed a HUGE difference between the two schools. Dean pays attention to detail and is extremely patient with me (which I highly appreciate). He is not running a driving school as just a business but rather, Dean educates and genuinely wants to have his students learn to drive safely, and properly. Fantastic experience: My experiences at Dean's defensive driving school has been great! Dean keeps his classes fun and exciting with videos and fun stories of his " great " driving experiences from his past. Dean's and his driving instructors teaching methods are also very simple and easily graspable when it comes to driving. As a student of his class, i managed to pass my G2 on the first try, along with many others who have also passed on their first tries. Definitely would recommend others for this course! I was an experienced driver from another country, but needed to adapt to different road conditions, rules and laws. Also, the weather demands special attention for safe and defensive driving skills Dean is a very skilled, calm, and patient teacher. Fantastic experience: Initially, I took my driving school course with another driving school, and failed my first G2 test. The first driving school didn't sufficiently prepare me for or instil me with the confidence to pass my test. After only two in-car lessons with Dean, however, I passed my G2. In those two lessons, I noticed great differences between the first driving school and Dean's Defensive Driving School. My first instructor was always texting while teaching me, whereas Dean gave me his full attention. Dean taught me a few things even my first instructor forgot to mention might be on the G2 test. Dean ran a full mock test, to give me an idea of what it was going to be like, and also to ensure I was prepared and confident enough to retake my test; whereas my first instructor never assured me that I was ready. To my first driving school, I was a number. To Dean, I was a student. To practice for my G test, I took one in-car lesson with Dean. He was able to accommodate me in my mini-van, which I was going to use in my test. He also made the helpful suggestion of buying a pack of blindspot mirrors, to make parking in the van easier. After practicing the things I wanted to focus on (mainly parking) and receiving positive feedback from Dean, I was much less worried about my test, and passed easily. The blindspot mirrors allowed to me perform my parallel park without the need for correction. Dean's thoroughness and sincerity in wanting to help me pass my tests made the difference to me in my tests. Not only that, he has always given my mom feedback via texts, which the first school never did once.

Fantastic experience: Great driving school! Dean pointed out all the mistakes I made unlike with my previous instructor. I will definitely be taking more lessons with him when it is time for my G test.

Fantastic experience: 2 weeks before my G2 entrance, I had no formal driving training and was on the brink of driver license expiry. I called Dean and in less than 4 courses, I've managed to pass the G2 driving exam with next to no errors. Dean will teach you the proper techniques of safe driving and really does care for his students, for the road and to be a lifelong safe driver.

Fantastic experience: I was on a tight schedule due to travelling to another city and Dean accommodated for me to get all my lessons before I leave. The in-class lessons are collaborative, interesting and fun. In-car lessons were very beneficial, although I have driven before but still learned lots. Would recommend.
