Positive experience: Booking was a little difficult in the more busy months as I had to wait 2 months from the time I finished my in class portion to begin my lessons, but the lessons were excellent. Fantastic experience: I did my driving school with an instructor named Qusay Majeed. I strongly recommend him for any new drivers who seek in passing on their first attempt. I had never touched a steering wheel prior to learning with Qusay. Quickly, within my first two lessons with him, I was already way more comfortable and I could drive way more confidently. He never hesitated to answer my questions and continued to give me feedback and push me to be comfortable behind the wheels. He assured we covered highways, all kinds of parking, different signage and even downtown Calgary. This really shaped me to be a good driver. I passed my drivers test on first attempt with no points off and I drive everywhere nowadays. Without Qusay, I know that I still wouldn't be driving nor would I have been as a confident driver as I am now. Additionally, I would suggest that if you are taking your drivers test, to book a refresher lesson with him a day or two prior to your exam and get him to take you around the area of where you are doing your test and do a mock test to prepare you well. The class material was precise and not over complicated and I managed to pass my exam on the first try! For the driving portion, Qusay has been a massive help! I hadn't had much practice driving before hand which I know put my at a disadvantage, but Qusay was so patient with me and worked with me in every aspect I needed help with. Communication and advice for scheduling permits and road test were all explained very well to me. Received both my Class 2 and AirBrakes certification . Can’t suggest Derek Browns enough.

Negative experience: I recommend you teach your students how to properly merge onto Deerfoot prior to them going on it… driving 40 to merge and than suddenly stopping in traffic is not the way to do it. This almost caused multiple accidents just looking in my rear view mirror.

Fantastic experience: Qusay Majeed is a very informative and good instructor. He really goes out of his way to show you what is right and wrong by actually drawing it out visually. He talks you thru your lessons and corrects you when you're wrong. He gives you neat tips and tricks so that you are prepared and know what to do. He makes you looks forward to your lessons.

Negative experience: Edit: this response is to the below comment that the business owner has left: no one called me to offer a free course, that is a lie to make them sound better. They didn’t reach out or apologize. When I called them later that day to explain the situation they offered no resolution. Called this business on 07/31/2024. I asked to join and make payment for their air brake course for 08/01/2024, the girl on the phone said the person in charge of taking bookings/payments was busy and would “call me back later”. It was already 4pm so I was skeptical. I asked if I didn’t hear back if I could show up for the course, she said “yes, that’s fine, the course starts at 8:30 but we won’t be in until 9pm so you can make payment then”. I double confirmed that I should come there for 8:30 and not 9. She again said “8:30”. I showed up at 8:15 to find out the course had already started. A sign in sheet at the front desk said the course was 8-5. What a complete waste of a day off. If you are going to use this business make sure you book directly with the main receptionist as the hired help doesn’t seem to know what’s going on.

Negative experience: Awful! The instructors barely speak English. They are consistently late. They don't teach the rules of the road as they are too busy cutting their toenails or talking on the phone. Pay the extra $100 and go somewhere reputable. Waste of money.

Negative experience: This place was horrible, my instructor, Gabriel, did not teach me anything. All he did was continuously raise his voice when I did something wrong but wouldn’t advise me how to correct it in the future. And that went on for 5 days consecutively, up to the point where I literally cried on the wheel because he kept yelling at me. He says he’s been teaching for over 10 years but in my opinion he should either retire or lose his job. The services at the front desk were okay but their schedule for driving is all backed up. I suggest looking for somewhere else or find a different instructor.

Negative experience: I went to this school to get my 3rd class license. As for the education system and teachers, everything is great, but I had a problem with registering for the driving test. For a week I could not get an answer as to when I would be able to take my driving test. I had to enroll in another school, as a result of which I lost time and incurred additional financial costs.

I would 100% recommend to anyone who is new to driving and wants to become a safe and successful driver the 4 in car sessions are great and you'll learn something at every session that you either didn't know or were unsure about previous to attending, 5/5 for the drivers and the course

Fantastic experience: Qusay Majeed was my instructor for my driving lessons at Dereck Browns. He is very intelligent to teach you the correct methods that way you will learn fast and easy. He is very kind hearted and understanding with things that might be knew to you and does not cause stress while driving as he is also patient. There is never a boring lesson due to his dialogue. He will always find a way to make you feel listened to throughout these lessons. He teaches way more than he should and i would not be the driving that i am without his knowledge. i recommend Qusay to anyone who needs to gain confidence for the road.

Fantastic experience: I greatly enjoyed and benefited from my time at Derek Brown's academy for driving. My instructor, Qusay, was very skilled and experienced. Qusay didn't just teach me about the rules of the road, he also gave me important habits that improved my overall skill as a driver, he was also quiet pleasent to speak with during the driving sessions. Fantastic experience: I just finished my drivers ed and my instructor was Qusay Majeed. I already had my class 5 licence so I did not really think I was going to learn alot, but he was a great instructor and I learned many things I did not know and improved alot. He was great at explaining things and was very good overall. Great experience.

Fantastic experience: The academy’s online driving course was easy-going and helped me both reintegrate my prior knowledge and learn new important pieces so I can properly drive. I was able to finish the course in time before my in-person lessons and it taught me to be a more knowledgeable driver. My instructor, Qusay Majeed really taught me well and I learned how to properly steer as I was not doing it correctly prior to doing my in-person driving lessons. I learned lots of stuff I didn’t before, such as how whoever is on the right in an uncontrolled intersection, even if turning into traffic, has the right of way. That is something I was not aware of before. When I made a mistake he taught me in a way that was strict, however not rude, and then I was able to easily learn from those mistakes. Qusay is personable and he never felt like an enemy or rude. He even taught techniques that he came up with, but when he did so, it did not confuse me and I still was able to focus on the curriculum whilst still applying the techniques he thought of himself. I now have better control of my driving than I ever have before. Qusay can adapt to the student’s learning needs, and he always makes sure you fully understand and have learnt well. His style of teaching is supportive and informative. Driving downtown was stressful but even though it was, Qusay taught well and made sure I understood and had gotten good experiences from every lesson. Overall, Derek Brown’s Academy Of Driving is very well organized and is very good at teaching new driver’s how to properly drive on the roads. I’m glad I went with them!

Fantastic experience: I was enrolled in the Class 5 Course ( Online) and my driving instructor was Ahmed, he is such an amazing teacher! He is very professional, knowledgeable and informative, he makes sure you understand the subject at hand before moving forward onto the next topic. He is very warm, welcoming, a great conversationalist & humorous. He is also extremely patient, supportive & encouraging. He helped me feel more confident and lessened my anxiety behind the wheel. He would also buy me drinks after my lessons which is very kind and generous of him. Prior to attending Derek Brown’s, I had zero driving skills and was extremely fearful of the road and driving. I’d highly recommend this Academy to anyone who is interested in learning how to drive. The front desk receptionists are amazing and kind as well. They made sure to always call me the day before to confirm my attendance for my lesson the next day, I do not regret investing here! Thank you so much for your services!

Fantastic experience: My driver instructor Qusay Majeed is a really great teacher who remained calm and kept me calm throughout my sessions this month. If you are going to do Derick Browns Driving School I really recommend you try to get Qusay as your instructor. He has Taligent me a lot and I really do appreciate his hard work and dedication to make me a better driver .
